well i decided to go to the drag strip for the first time not really knowing what to expect. anyways, lets just say i very pleased with my car. pretty much i've got a basically stock 86 supra, with a dirty k&n filter and 2.25 crush bent exhaust. and i got these times....
very first run--- 15.7@87mph
second run--- 15.54@89mph
wow, i had no clue my car could get those kind od times. i was expecting mid 16's... and i have barely anything modded so these times are pretty sweet. and since it was my first time ever racing, i bet i could even get in the 15.3 area. hmmm.

Yea those are very nice times for a stock Supra. You must have a very low gear in the rearend. Good job :)

Congrats man, those times rock! Have you stripped any weight out of your car or no?
Now I have a wee bit more confidence in hitting the track myself
:D

Basically stock? Considering 6M powered Supra's typically just break into the 15's, if at all, it seems unlikely a stock 5M is going to do a mid 15. Sorry to sound sceptical but there's something going on here...

Good job. I would like to disagree that your times are odd at all though. I have had several near stock MKII's in the mid 15's. My first MKII was an '82 "L" that I had put a JDM '84 5M-GE in - w/ just a pace setter cat back, punched out cat, drop in K&N and 4.30 LSD - it went 15.3-15.4s around 89mph. But the best was my '85 2tone - I bought it w/ just under 200K on it but it ran great. I had tons of goodies to put on it but wanted to see what it ran bone stock first. I just gave it a tune up (NGK plugs & wires, cap & rotor, and checked the timing), took off the AC belt and removed the spare - but that is it ! It went 15.3 @ 88 mph. This was all done w/ a worse than stock exhaust (looked like the previous owner had welded up part of a Celica GTS exhaust w/ some 2" crush bent muffler shop crap w/ a big dent in it into a cheap single outlet muffler). I took the same car - put on a K&N cone, TRD header (but left the rest of the exhaust alone at the time), and a 14lb flywheel and centerforce DF clutch - nothing else - went to the same track about 2 weeks later and it went 14.8 @ 92 mph. I was using the crappy tires that came w/ the car when I bought it - just lowered the tire pressure slightly, but I was only getting 2.0 60' times. Another example is my friends '84 - w/ exhuast (2.25" w/ a flowmaster), k&N, 4.30's, no spare and nothing else - went 15.2 @ 90mph.
If you took your car, bumped up the timing, adjusted your AFM, lowered your tire pressure, and got some track time - you would see that your car could probably get real close to the 14's.

Hey guys, these runs were done at the Mission Raceway in the lower main land, its 24 feet above sea level and is refered to as the best drag strip in the west, many record breaking runs are done here. The air was fairly cool that night too.
Hey cartman! Congrats man, but damn, you should have stuck around. I was there but didn't get to see you at all. You were pulling out of the parking lot while a bunch of us were getting parts out of my car. You drove by me a couple times but never stopped. I was wondering who that was until I saw that your supraforums handle said you were in chilliwack, then I figured it out. Nice times. I can't wait to take my car out, it should do even better. I would have but that would have been it for my clutch

seamus, yah i drove by a little group of people who all waved at me so i was assuming those were a few of the supra owner, but i didnt recognize you(it was dark). and i had to go early cuz i had a couple people with me that had to get home. oh yah i failed the tech inspection the first time for my battery tie down, so i went to canadian tire, and i saw your wife there. she parked the 'rolla in front of my car :P
hopefully once i get the TRD header and intake pipe, tuned afm, and advance the timing a little, i hope to shoot for high 14's

awsome times cartman. I can only dream of finding a mk2 that is that quick when I get it. Wait until you get some more practice at the track!!
Just curious, how many miles are on your car?

W/ the header and other tweaks - you shoud hit high 14's easy. What were you 60' times?
Those are some nice numbers you got there :P
dam and my 16.04 that I got at 2700 feet above sea level I thought was pretty good :( :?

Cartman - You certainly are closer to 14's then you think - while reaction time is important as far as the race itself goes, it doesnt effect your ET at all. 60' times is what it is all about! And 2.33 shows alot of room for improvement (though 2.2-2.4 is decent for people just starting out). W/ some practice and little adjustments to tire psi - you should be able to get that down to 2.0-2.1, which could be as much as 2-4 10ths off your current ET!

wow! I must say I am impressed! I hope my Cressida runs mid 15's with intake full exhaust, no cat, and headers. I also am very impressed that you ran mid 15's in a stock Mk2 basically. Congrats! :D
