I purchased a 85 Supra from a guy this month it is my second mkII ive also had a mkIII. The guy tried to tell me that it was from germany but the ding dong left the california emissions stickers on the hood. The car is in good shape save for some leakage and rust between the spoiler and hatchback. It is unique in that the top is a soft top that folds back. It is nice for here in california but i was wondering is any one has seen this before or it was something a body shop did. Like i said the car runs great and there are no creeks or groans.

Yeah, actually a shop in Germany did a couple of these conversions, but its possible that other shops did them too. They are completely custom fabricated. They definitely weren't an option from the factory. On the other hand there were a fair amount of 82-85 (someone will probably correct me on the years...) soft top celicas.
You said that it was a soft top, but it still has the hatchback? It would be very interesting to see pictures.
Here's a thread about softopsupra's mk2 convertible:

i'll try and get a pic up soon. yes it is still a hatch back, it is the center of the roof that is soft ala the bmws from a decade or so had, it folds back in a three fold pattern.

I think he's talking about one of these, a cloth sunroof. Popular in the UK in the 60's and 70's made by Webasto.

aaah. I get it. I was really confused there for a second. Still, that's pretty neat. I'd be really worried about something like that leaking here in WA weather, but I bet its pretty cool in SoCal.

suprasrock got it just right that is what is on my car. the nice thing is no leaks even in really hard rain. we had a real hard rain storm here about a month ago and it didn't even drip inside. i found out though not to take it to a brushless car wash. i did that and i got a godd shower in the process.

Do you have any pictures? toyota did make (i heard only 2) convertable CelicaSupras, but they dont look near as nice, there's no hatch, so they jsut drop of, not cool. So maybe they were expiermenting with a soft top version?
