Interesting. In the description it says auto-tranny but in the pic it shows a manual and he descibes how they changed the clutch at 44K. Thats another interesting point. Why would you change the clutch at only 44K??? Unless you slipped the hell out of your clutch because you don't know how to drive. Which leads to another point.. if you don't know how to drive a clutch what else is wrong with the car? If he babied it why does the engine bay look so ratty? (Just me being skeptical) Front panel has been pushed in. What's with the faded green floormat on the passenger side? Someone leave the window open in the rain? Or did it get flooded?
Has anyone seen this car in person? If this is someone on the forum, please step up and prove me wrong. This looks too nice of a car to have problems.

The YS34 Cloth interior leads me to believe that it probably is the Code 379 Deep Maroon. The Code 202 Gloss Black US cars did not get Maroon interiors.
And yep, the dent on the header panel below the nose badge & the "green" floormat has me very suspicious.... Esp if that floormat was previously Maroon.... :P

I would seriously suspect an odometer rollback on this one. Even the pics don't jive with the mileage and description, plus its a used car dealer. Somebody carfax this one.

Sounds like a little old lady from Pasadena owned it type story....I never ever see these cars around. I think there might be only 1 or 2 MK2's left in New York 8)
Hmmmm.....Staten Island is a hike but I would be interesting in seeing this thing in person. Agreed - the pictures kind of suck. Maybe I can convince Greg G. to drive me over there to take a look :D

When I bought my 84 deep marroon with leather about eight years ago, it had the same greenish discoloration on the original pass floor mat, but not to the degree that this one is showing. Mine was about half a bad.
I attributed it to the sun(CA) and if you notice that the top portion of the mat under the dash is not green.

The floormats that I found in the junkyard have a green discoloraton to them, but I though that it was from the oil that had seeped into them from people using them as mats to take stuff off from underneath the car

I dunno guys - this one looks decent to me. Maybe not $6900 decent, but still way better than avg. Id rather buy a car with authentic dirt nunder the hood than one which had a quickie detail which cld hide some telltale signs of trouble. The mats just look sunfaded - but why wldnt the seats fade too? Ive also seen steering wheels and shift knob looked sunbaked like that 12 years ago, so I wldnt hold that against the car. New clutch @ 44K, so the guy had no feel - only the clutch and brakes wld suffer the consequences. This seller better produce a thick service record folder to bring the kind of money he's looking for. And I think that header panel can be repaired neatly without any paint work.
I think JDK ought to add this to his brown, err um, deep maroon collection.

Good point Greg.
I was just going under the "babied" the car theme. I guess there are differences between "babied" and "anal"
Closer inspection is definitely required.

car was in an accident on 11/30/2001, according to carfax. doesn't mention severity, but the report notes they only report accidents where damage is assessed at over $1k. other than that, they can't find any evidence of an odo rollback, or any other severe disparities. car looks pretty solid, but eh...something still doesn't seem right about it. engine looks kinda ratty, the green floormats definitely raise some eyebrows, and that 44k clutch job makes me wonder how the w58 internals are doing.
about the color -- i was pretty sure the dark maroon (379) was only available in 85? could this be a late build 84?

Nope,
Code 379 was one of the standard colors for 84.
