Early planning for a new Florida meet...

Let's decide on at least the month right now, suggestions for events, place etc...
we want to try to have a dyno, so the cooler months are obviously better. any other suggestions appreciated.

Well, you all were right...it was the timing belt. $550 later my car is running again. I say we hold the meet in West Palm Beach so I don't end up stranded again 200 miles from home and have the worst weekend of my life ever. DH and I nearly strangled each other before we finally made it home Monday evening.

yeah the only thing I have a problem w/ is getting the pulley puller lined up on the harmonic balancer, then it's a breeze...
funny I was quoted $200 from a shop to do my timing belt a long time ago when I didn't know anything about fixing these cars...but I guess a lot of that bill is towing cost?

why do you need a puller? mine always slide right off. hard thing for me was to get the bolt loose. on one engine i broke 2 of my dads 1/2' drive craftsman breaker bars. and on erics car i broke a 1/2in-3/8 adaptor tqing the bolt down, and when i had removed it the first time his breaker bar was shaped like a semicircle before the bolt broke loose. i was afraid the damned thing was gonna break and then hit me and id end up in the emergency room for stiches.

Well, they had to replace the timing belt and a bunch of leaking gaskets. The majority of the cost was labor, but then they also charged $65 for the timing belt itself. This was at Midas, I took it to a national place in case anything went wrong once I got home and because I didn't know any local mechanics and didn't want my car to end up screwed up even worse. Anyway, now you all are just depressing me even more. Let's change the subject shall we?

Personally I'd like to see the meet happen in Sept. or early Oct. My anniversary is Oct. 31st and I will likely be out of town for two weeks around that date. Obviously, I'd really like to be able to make it to the meet this time.

I think that oct 10th would be good...I mean it really doens't make any difference what day as far as right now goes...if we pick a day and say it's going to be that day early then everyone can plan on it.

I like the idea of doing them in this area it's kinda like a central point. especially for wes coming from gainsville. that's a hella drive to so florida. and vice versa having them in gainsville is a hella drive from naples and such. maybe we could have them in orlando or something. orlando is pretty central to everyone I think. but wherever I dotn mind driving. just turn the cruize on and ride.

WOW! a meet in October! that is great. I get back from honduras around the 13th. will be close for about a month until the Army sends me to Kentucky. I would be driving from Dothan, AL, about an hour north of Panama City where i bought my beloved Becky Sue. A meet in Orlando or Melbourne is cool with me I have family in both. The Sunday of the 17th would be great for me and I can finally meet some of you and see your wonderful cars.

I'm quitting the whole "suggest a good place to meet" thing, you all can have fun with that.

If anyone in the south wants to have a little mini-meet in the summer, I can arrange for some funstuff, bowling or mini-golf silly stuff like that.

There's a member in South Carolina who wants to come down sometime (more likely before October) so when I get word, I'll have to arrange a meet rather quickly for all those who would be interested. Not sure on the area yet tho.

oh yeah, i have to fix my exhaust from that trip to naples. i went over one of the speed bumps too fast and the muffler hit it and broke the dp off the flange that bolts to the turbo. the really messed up part is this happend AFTER i fixed the muffler so it wasnt hanging so low. grrrrrrrrrrrr. i have to pull the exhaust all the way off the car so my dad can reweld it all the way around. im surprised it didnt fall off on the way home. i got out at home and thought i had an exhast manifold leak, but i looked and there was a huge gap between the dp and turbo.

sorry, even cars at stock height were scrapping those damned speed bumps. when me and summer got back friday night there was an ambulance leaving from way in the back. ive never seen an ambulance have to go that slow over speed bumps before. oh well, stuff happens. itll get fixed. i dont think ill be able to go into that complex once the coilovers are on the front though. ill prolly start scrapping the oil pan on them or something.

Accident?! :( Aaaaaaahhhh! bad word, bad word. I do not like that word, very bad memories. My poor car. Tanya's poor car. If you guys ever need a part under the hood, I finally got the hood open on my old car and everything looks fine except for the radiator (apparently the tow yard even got the car to run for a bit before it quit cause of the radiator). If the damn woman hadn't bent the frame I could still be driving that car today. Damn her! Tanya, I seriously hope you and your car will be allright. Maybe it's just surface damage? You gotta tell us.

Also, I came up with this genius idea. How about we just hold the next meet in Naples? I guess we just won't go into Tanya's development :P After all, it seems pretty fair to me since Tanya organized the last one. It'll take me the same time whether I'm going to Orlando or Naples so you all speak up and give your opinion.

you all don't get my earlier suggestions...what is wrong with having separate mini-meets before the major meet in October? North have their own, south have their own... then we all meet in the middle in October...

I think the mini-meet is a great idea for you folks in the Tampa and Naples area since there seems to be groupings of you all in those areas. Unfortunately, I seem to be all by myself here on the Southeast coast. I can't justify the long drive and expense to go to Naples and then to Orlando or wherever again just a month or two later. I'll be waiting for October to come around and maybe I'll even get all the way there this time :roll:

well, i got it fixed saturday. took ~1hr to get the old trans out, then another 3-4 to put it back cause i had to wait for my friend chuck to come over so we could lift it onto the jack under the car, then he steaded it while i jacked it up and slide it in. after he got there it took less then 2 hrs. not too bad. also, i turned the boost up to 11-12(hard to watch the gauge and the road) and all i can say is yeah. in 1st gear, from a roll if i nail it, even with a passenger the tires start spinning ~5krpm, and if i shift too second hard it just fishtails. im hopeing i get to put the 16's on this week so ill have stickier tire for the meet. i got the metal valve stems today, had to go to 3 diff rim shops to find them.

Well, if you don't have any spare room in the hatch, you could always buy a can of fix-a-flat and take that with you. :lol: Yeah, I know, it's gloppy stuff and makes a real mess inside the tire, but it usually does the job as long as the tire will hold air and hasn't come loose from the rim.

Also, I suspect that the double feature ( Adrenaline Rush & NASCAR) shown on the Imax schedule for Friday will rollover to Saturday night starting at 7:00PM. I will check later on in the next few days to confirm. Anyone interested in going to the Imax theater again this time around?

This thread has been going on for 3-4 months now. Thats no excuse :-)

I just picked up my pics. about an hour ago. I didn't use my digital camera this time. The pics. that I took of Wes's car came out pretty decent. I can post my pics. once I have permission from the car owners to do so.
