I need to know what the part number/ID # to those Blue NGK Wires. I saw them on one thread and I need a new set can any one help me out?

Thanks,

i went to lordco on the weekend, and they were less than excited to help me in finding over-sized wires.

thanks for posting the part#... makes it so much easier.

yeah I searched forever for NGKs, the local shops couldn't find them. I finally found a set on Ebay, and got them for $20. Real old school, even still in the old yellow box. I love them <333

You can buy them direct from the NGK website www.ngk.com
You don't need a part#. Just enter in the year and model. Those are the only wires they recommed. I think they cost forty-ish dollars.

so are they no larger in size than teh stock wires? i thought everyone was running cool 8mm ones or something...

The NGK wires (in the old school yellow box, TX97) are around 1/4" in diameter (calipers on spongy blue rubber).

So they have an OD of about 6mm, if you think an extra mil of insulation means anything if wanting '8mm' wires...

They look the same diameter as the stock wires. I'll measure mine tomorrow. :mk2vroom:

i really don't buy into the whole 8mm plug wire thing... it seems more of a gimmick than anything else, but i was just wondering nonetheless.

well, they're supposed to be high resistance wires I think, and all that extra insulation is supposed to make them not be interfered with by any other electronics (I think, correct me if I'm wrong)

my NGKs feel tons stronger than the stockers, or other aftermarkets I've had

They just look prettier than black :)

There's more to resistance and insulation than diameter. Wider diameter of the wire part actually lowers the resistance. When it comes to insulation the material it's made of is more important than the thickness.

Ooops. My bad. Resistance is most definately a bad thing in plug wires. Beware, though, wide diameter doesn't mean wide core wire. Lots of cheapie wires make the diameter wide by adding more silicone without altering the resistance of the core wire. That's what I meant to say. Material quality is probably the most important factor. The bottom line is that the NGK are low resistance regardless of diameter.

Are 6mm and 8mm wires different ... yes.

The 8mm are a higher resistance ... yes. (well I think so...)

I used an 8mm on an old skidoo 'cause I had it lying around and it burnt out two sets of coils in a week.

The question to ask is WHY is a higher resistance wire better?

I think it has somthing to do with keeping the pulse a a high voltage as it travels to the plug. In my opinion, I would think it would only be a good idea if you upgraged your coil ect.

Now somebody correct me!

As this picture says they are lower resistance
Higher resistance would only have bad effects

Do mkIII wires fit the mkII?

MKIII wires will not fit on a 5MGE. On a 7MGE, the wire lengths are different, because the distributor is in a different location. Then there is the 7MGTE.... Totally different animal altogether, because the majority of the wires are VERY VERY short, due to the length between the spark plugs & the coil packs. And the plugs (where they plug into the coil packs) are not compatible w/ our distributor cap.

Still on the topic of MKIII's, I believe wires from a 1G & a 1JZ motors will not work either

Resistance is proportional to length and the resistivity of the material (a constant) and inversly proportional to cross sectional area.

I can't believe I remember that. I think that qualifies me as geek for sure. :?

But the a greater diameter wire can be higher resistance if the extra diameter is made up from extra silicone insulation or if a material with higher resistivity is used. There's more to it than diameter.

I think I'll measure the resistance of my NGK's with a multimeter. I'll keep y'all posted.
