Me and my friend made a bet on wether if a car is red does it cost more. Someone please tell me this stupid myth is wrong.

I was told they do cost more because people who buy red cars tend to be more aggressive and tempermental drivers  . Also I heard red paint is the most expensive so collision costs are higher.

sure they cost more. red cars are far more likely to get pulled over for traffic violations, since they stand out like a sore thumb. points on the license = higher insurance costs = yeah, red cars cost more ;)

Aside from that logic, which applies to a lot more variables than just color, I've never had an insurance agent ask the color of the car before giving me a quote. So the quote would be the same regardless of color.

I know but if you can look at the colour of a car and say the driver will be more agressive. That means you could look at the drivers skin colour and say that he will be a shitty, fast, or a slow driver, and thats not right. Soo... i dont know

It really depends on the insurance company. Most of them no, it won't make one bit of difference. However, some insurance companies have some pretty in depth forms you have to fill out before they quote you. One of them I had to fill out once asked what size tires you had, what color the car was, whether the car had a hood scoop and if it did, was it functional. All sorts of questions like that. I am certain for that company (forget which, that was 15 years ago) that it would matter. But in the past 8 years I have never been asked.

in theory, unless your getting collision, the insurance is covering the driver, not the car, so there is no difference for different vehicles.

i tested the theory with my agent and asked for a quote on a 03 porsche twin turbo 993 and on my 82 supra... they were the same price for the same coverage.
