I need a part # for and 83 expansion valve. The one listed for my car at Autosone has treads that fit but the copper tubing is way to short. I got one at O'Reillys with tubing that fits and it has adaptors for the treads. This one can be hooked up but because the arrangement is different to stock the evaporator box wont fit back together.

Where can I get an expansion valve that will actually fit? What do Toyota charge? I'm close to just putting back in the origional valve. There's only so much bending you can do on those hardlines before they are permanently fubar. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Here's a pic of the setup.

Thanks 3000. That's roughly what I paid for the two I've tried so far. I was wondering if the dealership price was in the same range.

I just got back from returning the O'Reillys valve. What's weird is that when they looked the recommended valve up in the book it said that the second copper tubing was 31 inches same as the stock. But the actual part (with the same part #) only had about 7 inches of tubing which is way too short. :x

It's the same in Autozone.

I tried Advance but it didn't come up in their system. Advance seems to be pretty hit and miss IMO. Often they have the part but the dumbass behind the counter just cant find it in the system. It's like playing store clerk roulette.

If I can't find this soon I guess I'll have to put the old one back in. As far as I know it should be open above thirty degrees but closed below that. Is that right? :?

ALSO If you look at the picture you can see that there is an electrical connector with two prongs. Anyone know which wire connects to which prong. There's a black'n'white wire and a yellow. Thanks

Save yourself a head ache and get the dealer part and make sure it comes with new o-rings
get a new pressure switch while your there looks like it's been leaking

No leak in the pressure switch. That's how it looks after being half cleaned. The black stuff is disintegrated insulation foam. This is the first time the ac has been serviced ever I think. When I opened it up first it looked like there was a birds nest in there or something. Tons of crud and twigs and stuff. I don't think it was actually leaking cuz it was able to hold a vacuum. What is the dealer price for the expansion valve??

Don't remember what the part # was. Just give them a ring and ask for a quote. Make sure to mention the SOGI discount.

I just replaced my expansion valve, got it from toyota, it fit perfect as it should have. I also had a ton of leaves and other stuff in the airbox, its a wonder it even worked, also my pressure switch was leaking, it to was covered with dirt, the reason its so caked with dirt is because its been leaking, trust me. The switch is like $15 from toyota or get it from a local parts place for $5. Be sure and ask for the switch for a celica gts, if you tell them supra they will say they dont have it and cant get it. I called the dealer and they said the two parts are interchangable, I beleive them because my A/C works perfect and blows COLD for a R134 conversion. The celica GTS switch is identical.

Thanks everyone. I ordered the valve and pressure switch from the dealer today. They had them all for a supra.

Expansion valve $56
Pressure switch $15
Blower resistor $9

The only thing I'm not sure of now is how to hook up the pressure switch electrical connection. ie which wire goes one which prong. Also, I'm not sure how the wire leace the evaporator box. This unit has been apart for some time now. :?

I'm going to put tread lock on the treads and tighten them real tight with new o-rings. If anyone has any extra advice on putting this all back together and preventing leaks I'd appreciate it. I REALLY don't want to have to pull this thing apart any time soon.

no thread lock
do not overtighten! the threads on ac lines are very weak
put a light coat of ac oil on the o-rings to keep them from getting pinched or torn
also if your system has been open your reciever/drier should be changed. it should be the last part you put on and leave the caps on it until ready to install because the dessicant inside will absorb moisture from the air. make sure to pull a long vacuum (at least 15 min) and make sure it holds for atleast 5 mins before charging. the switch hookup should not make a difference on a 2pin switch all it does is open or close the circuit.good luck

D'oh! :bad-word: I guess I'll need another new drier then. Thanks LVCAPPER 8)

Dealer is ony ~$10 more than Autozone for expansion valve and it actually fits unlike the autozone one.

I'm picking up the expansion valve tomorrow from the dealer. That was pretty quick. 2 days.

There's one thing I need to know in order to put this thing back together. I don't remember what route the pressure switch wire takes to get out of the evaporator casing.

There's a small hole to the right of the resister fitting that looks like something goes through it but it doesn't look like the wire will reach that far. It's been a while since I took this thing apart so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks 8)

That's exactly where it comes out of ( i just replaced my valve couple weeks ago) IIRC it routes down, back, up, then out the hole. Just enough wire to have the plug sticking out.
