The SEARCH for "oil filter" returned 1641 threads. I havent seen this discussed before.

I was reading on SupraForums.com that some owners are using the oil filters from the Lexus V8 or the Landcruiser V8.

Has anyone tried this? What would be the benefit, besides larger surface area?

I use the Wix brand filter. The can on it is twice the size of the stock Toyota. The filter media has a lot of surface area.

I read awhile back that late 80's Mustang V8 filters work and I have been using them since. they are about half again as long as the ones for our cars and they fit just fine. Its just alittle tight but no problem getting them on.

The K&N catalogs I've looked at have 83 listed as the HP3001 (IIRC) which is the longer filter which is also the part number for the 5.0 Mustang oil filter. I only use these, or if I have to the puny Toyota filter. I like the more oil factor, personally...
