Day 1 is finished, Day 2 starts in 3 hours. Yeah i got up a little early. Functioning on a little bit of sleep. Sleep???? In Las Vegas??? What's that, you don't need any of that???
Day 1 started w/ the Scenic drive out to the Valley of Fire, preceded by lunch @ the In & Out Burger on Tropicana. Was good to meet up with everyone for lunch. Night before, both myself & JIm Coble were up late till 3:00 AM cleaning cars, we got FOUR engines washed off earlier in the day (myself, Jim, Bob Sully & James Noyes), then we started doing final cleanup work. Bob left after awhile, I just had some minor waxing to do, Jim still had his whole car, & we managed to talk James into doing his car as well (car was pretty filthy after driving through a snowstorm in Colorado/Utah while getting here). James was just hoping for "something" presentable for the week. 9 hours later, it was beyond presentable... 2 major washings, engine detail, a quicky run through w/ the paint cleaner/wax & trim detail, the car was looking 20 times better. Now James understands why myself & Jim are a bunch of nutcakes for still cleaning our cars at 3:00 AM.
The drive out to Valley of Fire was pretty nice. Head count was approx 40 - 50 Supra's of all Gen's. Couple of peeps got lost right off the bat (No, you get on I-215 EAST, NOT WEST) & we had to pull over & wait a bit. Nice photo opportunity along the side of Lake Mead Blvd. The drive through Valley of Fire & the surrounding area was pretty cool. Seeing the caravan going through the winding roads was pretty cool. I do have about 90 minutes of video footage, missed the last part of the drive going home from the visitors center, due to a dead battery.
The bad news: 3 peeps did get speeding tickets (1 before the Lake Mead park area 1 person trying to catch up), the other 2 were inside the park area (mostly going 25mph over). Then there was the Park Ranger who was giving James & myself some grief about NOT having a permit in the park area for having a large group going through the park.. (PERMIT?? What %^@#!! PERMIT?? Nobody told us about needing a $%$@ permit when we did our dry run on Tuesday & we told someone that we would have possibly 60 cars coming through the park?? OH, and for the last 2 years we were ALSO supposed to have permits when we were going through Red Rock Canyon??? What the #$%$^!@????). Basically she could have tossed all of us out of the park, but she gave us a braak, since we were already here, we had paid our $11 to get in, and this was our first time visiting.
Get back, had dinner w/ a couple of PacNW & AZ members (Jay Balducci joined us, and this year he brought his new BLACK 85 that he acquired a few months ago. The Black 85 w/ the Centerlines (that Dave Shepard also has) makes for a pretty sight to see, it almost looks like Agatha). then hung out in the garage for a bit (WOOHOO, FINALLY got to meet Sir Sidman in the garage, just before I left for dinner). Throughout the day, John Nugyen's Silver 85 (celicsupravvti) who just finished his 1JZ-GTE V VTI motor transplant was getting LOTS of attention from peeps in the garage, this was the first time I had seen a 1J V VTI motor in person (I've seen a non V VTI before). He does have a label in the engine compartment that says the motor came our of a 98 JDM Chaser).
Show & Shine is less than 3 hours, BBQ is in 8 hours. Jim picked up the food last night & we printed out directions on how to get to his place from the Luxor. Will see what the day bring. Wish you guys were here!
Oh yeah, I've also got a little "I got my butt kicked" story in the Kill Forums.
(And for those of you who have Internet access in your hotel rooms, please start posting pics!!).

Day 2 of this years meet. Show & Shine, plus the BBQ @ Jim Coble's house. The hightlight of the day so far??? Show & Shine??? NOPE!!!! The BBQ??? NOPE!!! How's this for a nutty story!!! We're out in the main street that is in front of Jim's house, and John Nuygen lets FIVE of us go out and "TEST DRIVE & ABUSE" his new 1JZ-GTE conversion (Aaron Garney, Dave Shepard, Bob Sully, Myself, and Jay Balducci). Needless to say, I don't think John has too much more tire tread left on his back tires. Short of a 2J conversion, John has raised the bar of "nutty power" that can be put to the ground on a MKII chassis. Details to follow later.
Update: (9:30 PM). The list has now gone up to EIGHT nutcake's that John is letting "test drive" his car. Add Seamus Epp, Christian Ellingson, and now Jim Coble just took it out. Will add more as time goes by. Sidman is just standing here & is laughing his ass off!! This really is pretty funny!!!!

Ugghh....
Sunday AM.... VERY VERY long day @ the dyno & the track.... We basically hauled ASS through the morning session on the dyno. Between 8:20 & 12:30, we managed to process 29 cars, then 3 more peeps snuck in whiile the group was at lunch.
The "quicky" important stuff: Don Lew got the NA award (167 HP, 167 TG), James Sanchez got the Turbo award (can't remember the numbers), and Dave Shepard got the Unlimited award again this year (402 HP, can't remember the TQ
I can't remember most of the numbers from the Big Gun's (Dyno Invitational), But I can tell you this much. For those of you who picked up the most recent Turbo Magazine & saw Ken Henderson's gorgous Black MKIV on the cover.. He now has the numbers to back it up.. 1110 RWHP running the TWINS mentioned in the article, a HKS Stroker kit that is one of the first in North America and NO NITROUS beat out everyone else that was running either a big single or they were on the bottle..
The really shocking news. One of the guys who snuck in during lunch was one of the local Vegas guys with a VERY seriously modded 7M-GTE (for those of you who saw the orange MKIII @ the dyno & races) with a 702 rwhp pull while on the bottle!!!!! YIKES!!!
John Nugyen only managed to pull "I believe" a 287 rwhp out of his 1JZ V VTI. Stilll needs some tuning to do. Still a very impressive ride however.
The fun part for me?? Even though I did not dyno my own Redpra, I still somehow dyno'd FOUR other Supra's during the day. I did Alex & Larry's (TRD_83_Supradrifter and drftsupramk2) a beater looking MKIII Turbo (owner says to run it up to 7K, at about 6.5K he starts hitting FCO, so that was a bit of a bumpy ride), and a modded MKIV big single that the owner purchased about a month ago. Unfortunately, his wastegate began opening around 5.5K & he had exhaust gasses coming out from the engine the bottom of the car. The owner made the decision to stop after the first pull. So aside from running ragged from helping Jim Coble out w/ dyno registration duties, and checking to see that whoever was up next was ready to go (thus I'm now close to losing my voice), and watching the drags (and now close to losing my hearing (I really need to bring earplugs next year when the domestics are running), I'm pretty beat. Now I need try & get out of here, so that I can go watch Don Lew AutoX up at LVMS. He's already got 3 co-drivers sharing his car, so his car is in for a long day. Willl have to see how long I last. :P
Yes, I know I'm missing some information on other activities.. My brain is a little ragged at the moment. Will try & fill in the blanks later. But once again, I'm having a blast!!

That would be the rev-limiter. FCO completely shuts the engine off.

Just got back into Fresno, and holy crap am I tired. Four days of Vegas, non stop with very little sleep has taken its toll - but I'll tell you, I haven't had this much fun in a LONG time. It was so cool to finally meet those of you who made it to Vegas, talk about cars and have fun together - for me it was just like being on the forum - personalities were exactly as I expected. Very very good time indeed.
The Show and Shine was fun, and LORD what a turn out of MkII Supras - damn, this should have been the year I brought the MkII instead of the MkIV. I guess that'll have to happen next year. So many pretty MkIIs, and it was neat to see them all in person after looking at pictures all these years. It's neat to see how well you've all taken care of your cars...it made me smile to see TWENTY THREE MkIIs lined up. Wow :D
The dyno...geez, what can I say. Dave Shepherd put down 402 RWHP! Incredible - that car is not only powerful, it's FAST too. I missed a lot of the MkII dynos because of my 10am arrival, but I did get to see many of them. Then of course was Ken Henderson in his MkIV twin turbo and an incredible 1,110 RWHP pull. That car is bad ass!
The drags were amazing...getting to see Dave and Bob go head to head with their 7MGTE machines, John's SWEET 1JZGTE MkII, ummmm...oh, Zank and his cousin "HCOGEHC" running against each other -- and of course getting to see the 9 second runs by some of the MkIVs....wow! Just too cool! Seeing all the MkII's running in the drags was so great to see, especially since many of them were actually a lot faster than the MkIIIs that ran. Except for Dwayne with CarbonFiber EFX and his amazing MkIII turbo -- a broken "carbon fiber" driveshaft ended his night, but that car was screaming fast when it hooked up.
We had a very FAST drive home, in a group of 6 MkIVs and 1 MkIII with a 1JZGTE swap, and when I'm not so tired I'll have to post about all the stuff that happened coming home. Crusing at 90 to 150 mph, nose to tail across the Mojave (with Valentine One detectors in the lead car, and the tail end car, and the car in the middle too) - we made very very quick time getting home.
We had a run in with a CHP officer who was hell bent on pulling us over, but we all had FRS radios in the cars, so....that combined with radar detectors....heh....all we got was dirty looks from him. One of our guys happened to time a speed up to 150mph just when I signaled on the radio that the radar was going ape shit - and within seconds, a CHP car blew past me on my right and kept going. Fortunately, Bill slowed his car down, exited the freeway and parked by a gas station before the cop ever got close to him. We talked to him on the radio and he rejoined the pack as we passed where he was. Scary and funny at the same time....he was amazed he didn't get caught.
Anyhow, time for a shower and relaxation. To everyone I got to meet FINALLY after all these years, it was soooo GOOD to get to see you in person. I'm exhausted from the drive, but I'll tell you...after all the cool stuff I got to do this weekend, I can't wait till next year to do it again.

Got home about an hour and a half ago...have another ridiculous day at work tomorrow, so need to catch some zzzz - but had to check this thread before retiring for the night....!
Definitely a great time in Vegas. It was great seeing the regulars again - Chris, Jim Coble, Seamus, Alan Goodsite, Jay (and his gorgeous new black bone-stock '85 that had everyone drooling at the show-and-shine) and many others - yes, even you, Zank! Finally got to meet Sidman after all this time....! I have to say again that the MkII crew is definitely the most cohesive, as an entire group, of all of the generations, from what I've seen.
Lots of highlights at this meet, too many to list now - but Chris is right. Driving John's 1J vvti conversion was a definite kick in the ass. The powerband of that motor is unbelievable - and despite the fact that he put down less power than I did on the dyno, he beat me 4 out of 5 at the track...maybe it's because I don't know how to drive that fast in a straight line...???
John also set an SILV record for blown tires...two on the way up, one on the way back. He had borrowed my old stockers (from the '84), which had been sitting around for two years. Though they looked absolutely fine when he picked them up, they obviously weren't reliable for long drives at 80-100mph (not to mention having a bunch of us Supramaniacs racing Mustangs (and winning handily) in the car during the BBQ) after having sat around for all that time...keep that in mind if you're thinking about remounting tires that have sat around for a while.
There were too many highlights to list in one post before going to bed....the scenic drive was great this year - some said it was too long, but others agreed that it was a great way to spend an entire afternoon...Elvis was seen at the show-and-shine...the BBQ at Jim's was great - the highlights being the great burgers and the scooter races...several high-end MkIVs had mechanical problems on the track...the MkIII with the 700hp motor blew up his intake on the track - very impressively (too much laughing gas, I guess)...a certain high-profile MkIV owner (whose name will remain anonymous) threw a tantrum at the dyno...but things at the dyno went super-smoothly otherwise, thanks to Jim and Chris' efforts...had some fun with a green MkIV from AZ at 115-120mph on the way to the track - whose owner probably was thinking: "Why can't I lose this guy in the MkII?"
Already looking forward to next year!
Stephen, you must have lured all of the CHP guys away, because my Valentine One only found two of them tonight on the way back. On the way up there were lots of 'em - sometimes in packs.
All right, enough. I've got a s**tload of pictures, but they won't be available until I have time to set up a new hard drive on my laptop before the current one finally goes belly up. I'll probably have them available by the end of the week.
'night all!

anyhoo, did u see that corvette run 7's!? GOOOODDD DAMNNNN. and the wotm supra was rediculously FAST.
Yep God Damn is right!!! That car is one of the reasons why my ears were ringing most of the night. Plus the 2 passes that white/red Pro Stocker took. Finally, that Orange funny car that did the 5 second run... With the whole ground shaking.... That was nuts...
..a certain high-profile MkIV owner (whose name will remain anonymous) threw a tantrum at the dyno
Will let you guys guess on this one.... S. S. Right in front of several MKII forum members as well. Am glad that Keith handled it well, because this was all news to me.
Speaking of the above information, just for everyone's info we can expect a public announcement, from Keith about how "not very well the Invitational went". The morning session was OUTSTANDING & Keith is very happy with us. The afternoon on the other hand is another story. Let's just say that Mike Arnett was not very thrilled that somehow this ended up being a Test & Tune session & peeps were sometimes taking 30 - 40 minutes to do their 2 pulls. Keith will already rectify this problem next year.
One last highlight worth mentioning..... I can't imagine who were those 2 nutcakes that were entertaining the crowd @ the Show & Shine w/ their RC 1/10 scale MKIV's running around, along w/ the small red 1/40th?? scale MKIV???? Finally that "other" person who had the blue drifting sedan???? Thanks to Dave Shephard & James Noyes for helping me out w/ the impromptu RC demonstration. That was allot of fun & the crowd really enjoyed it, esp the collisions!!
And yes, this gave me inspiration to grab my RC car & put it on top of 1 of the rollers @ the dyno the next day. Yes, photo's were taken of this, including Robert Choo from Turbo Magazine (if my Redpra does not show up, I'm going to be laughing my ass off if this makes it into the magazine).
This year really was a blast & you guys that I've known for many years, along w/ the new ones I've finally got to meet this year (Stephen & Alex) make this event all the more enjoyable. For me, the freakiest thing that I discovered was that Aaron Garney & Steve Sidman practically have almost identical personalities/wicked sense of humor!!! (It's Aaron G to the 2nd power)..
My brain is finally winding down & I need to get to sleep soon. Am meeting Keith & Chris J in the Luxor Garage @ 0800 for the drive home, so I need to shut up... :P OH YEAH!!! A BIG SHOUTOUT to Jim Coble for letting me crash at his place & putting up with me for the last 9 days.

(One last highlight: Went to the AutoX earlier today & hung out w/ Don Lew, Alan Goodsite & Jay Balducci). Managed to do 8 rides in the passenger seat while being tossed around is always fun!! Passed on the champainge brunch. 8 Supras showed up, 4 were running, AlanG should have pictures).

Vegas was fun this year. It was nice seeing everyone again. Unfortunately I only got to do the show and the bbq. I got in early thurs morning and was too dead to do that day's activities. I wanted to go to the drags, but an 8pm dinner turned into an 11pm dinner and ruined my plans (get a group of 10 laggers together and it turns into one super lagger group). I also missed Sunday's auto X as I was recovering from a massive hangover and had to drive back home.
The show was cool. There were over 20 mk2's there. AWESOME turnout. Many a nice mk2's. Jay's pristine mk2 was a treat to see. John's 1jz was so cleanly done it looked stock. The pics didn't do it justice. Then there was the run of the mill 7mgte swaps. Yes, run of the mill nowadays. I'd say half of the mk2's there were 7m powered. And as usual there were some crazy mk3's and mk4's. Even a stroked 350 powered mk3! Though it looked beat to hell, the idea was pretty cool.
The bbq was fun. John letting everyone drive his mk2 was a trip, especially him insisting that you HAVE to take it to 7k to get a true feel of the engine 8) ...well who was I to argue with that? :D Then all the toys came out. Dave brought out the drift rc car and Jim fired up his scooter collection. The highlight of the evening (besides driving johns car) was seeing Jim Coble in a full knee dragging lean on his 3 wheeled scooter rounding the corner of his street
Thats pretty much it for Supra stuff. I'm going to go to the hospital later and have my thumbs checked out. They're both pretty swolen and my left one is black and blue. A little advice: If you're drunk off your ass, and decide to moon on the strip, make sure you're coherent enough to remember to undo your belt, cause if it's on pretty tight, it's a real SOB to pull down, and even harder to get back up  I think that little stunt may have hyperextended? my thumbs.

I want to say thank you to Jay for basically letting me tag along with him most of the weekend. It was a very eye-opening experience for me.
I was never a fan of the MK2s... respected them, but, didn't see too many uber clean, respectable ones.
After seeing the plethora of 7Ms, the 1J, the prestine black beauty that Jay purchased, the very attention grabbing blue 85?, and meeting everyone at the BBQ... definitely changed my opinion...
Thanks to all of you who allowed a current Nissan/Honda owner join you guys at various events! I hope you all had a safe trip back.

This year's Vegas meet was a complete blast. Chris, Bob and Christian provided great highlights - and thanks for the compliments on my new black 85 mk2. I guess seeing Don C's "Agatha" and the group buy on the Mk2 poster provided motivation to find a mint black 85. Besides spending time talking to wonderful Mk2 owners - the 2 big highlights for me was driving John's 1JZ GTE 85 Mk2. Holy mackeral! Like several said after driving his car "Anyone want to buy a used 7mgte?" His install looks better than a factory install. John is a super nice guy and glad he came to last and this year's meet. The other highlight was the generous offer by Don Lew in letting me and Alan G autoX his race prepped 85 Mk2 - thank you Don!. I've been AutoXing for several years and his car drove/handled like no other Mk2 I've ever been in (those big Hoosiers stick like glue). It is a seriously competitive car in the DSP class. Thanks again to Jim Coble for hosting the BBQ - another great night after the Show-N-Shine. Kam - even though you don't have a Supra anymore - you provide lots of atmosphere to the meet. Hope you and others can come to Phoenix someday and test out the Karts at the Bondurant 0.5 mile track. I look forward to next year!! Jay Balducci

yes, vegas kicked ass. I felt proud to be a mk2 owner. We are by far the closest of all the the generation groups. The bbq made it all worth it. It was great to meet all of you some of you I know only by your real names because I never talked to you here.
The first night I arrived was thursday. I showed up to the garage and meet the zank and his crew, went to the buffet at circus circus where I seen someone eat the nastiest brownie ever. From there we hit the strip. It was fun playing car tag.It was not fun listening to Alex play us a solo from the butt flute in the hotel room. After that he was banned from the buffet.
Friday was the show and shine and I got dehydrated and drank beer in the sun. The real fun was the bbq, where we manged to pull a little drift action in johns car and a 180 in front of a firehouse. Needless to say the fireman was not impressed at all.I really had fun at the bbq this made it worth the 22 hour drive. It felt like we where a big family and that it was some kind of reuinon. Jim Colble let me stay at his house that night and we b.s,-ed till he got tired.
Saturday morning I'm laying there and Dr. Eng perscribed a double dose of light in the face, then he scampered away chuchl-Eng,to which Coble said youre Cruel. We got to the dyno early and for the first few hours it was great just the mk2,3s hangin out. I dyno-ed 2nd best na due to the fact that my car needs a little tuning.Being 2nd only to Don whose car is tuned better is'nt a bad thing. Don and I beat out the mk3s so I feel happy. Big dawg where nice but at that time the place was crowded and there was a little more tension. The drags where fun and but I felt the cars could have ran better times. After that I said my goodbys and left home
I would like to thank Aaron and Seamus for rolling down there with me and paying for all the gas. Thank you Keith for your work in putting on a great time, thanks to the mexi crew for making it fun to be in vegas even if you have an na car. Thanks Zank for the buffet the first night. I can't wait to hang out with you guys again! Alex it was good to meet you. Thanks Dave for the ribs and the rib shack, they were good. Thanks John for letting me roll in your car and taking the time to talk with me. One million thanks to the man Jim Coble for throwing the bbq that was all worth it. Also thanks for the floorspace man I appreciate it. thank you Dr. Eng for dynoing my car. Jay it was nice to meet you I think I would give you the most vivatious mk2 owner of the year award. The guy from texas it was nice to meet you also. Sorry I keep forgeting your name. Sidman you where funny as hell and very honest. btw shouts to the mk4 owner from Fresno 'Chris' haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa what happens in vegas stays on the internet. Bob it was nide to meet you. All and All vegas rocked. I can't wait
till next year.-Large Larry

I just got home 3 hours ago. A little beat right now but thought I'd pipe up. I got pics. Just got a new camera before the meet so I tried to play the part of "officia mk2 photographer". Got 294 pics, I think I might host a little meet up here to show all the locals them, theres 2 many to post . I'll get some up very soon though.
On the way down, we did the trip from WA to Vegas and back in one sitting, 3 of us alternating. Pretty brutal but it turned out ok. Except for all the wrong turns. We ended up exploring all parts of the country that we weren't planning on. Like in the north end of Nevada when the pavement ended and the hunter guy with the buck teeth and thick rimmed glasses asked us if we wanted speed and told us to watch out for the pretty country and the sheep, he forget to mention the giant mutant wild sheep dog pack!! Holy crap those things were nuts, 5 feet tall, all white and very very enthusastic. Yeah that about describes that detour best :silly:
I'll post more later, going to go shave then veg now (btw those that met me I'm normally clean shaven, didn't have room to bring the shaver in larry's car  )...

ok i thought i should add my bits to the groop effert. I HAD A BLAST !!! for me the highlight of the hoal event wasnt the grate show and shine wasnt the drags wasnt the dynos when i got my goal of 400hp wasnt even driving jons sweet ass 1J. The best was the scooter races between Jim and myself. When we where @ Jims for the BBQ he wipped out his honda scooters and the 2 of us where racing those dame things like we where gong 90mph rubing for placemant for the next tern. The fact that we where only going 35mph had nothing to do with it. All and all i had a blast. Im glad i got to add faces to lots of the names that i know from hear + my wife had a blast too. I love tha fact that we are a good groop of peeps and all had fun. I have dyno vids of all the turbo mk2s and some NA s also so in time i hope to show them all to everyone.

What did everyone run at the drags???
We mostly sucked, in general. Dave and James Sanchez did reasonably well (though Dave didn't beat his time from last year). I was hoping to be in the 13s but am not good enough at the finer points of drag racing yet. Oh, well. I still think I could have beaten some of the more stock MkIVs and most of the IIIs if we'd been allowed to run them. The organization at the drags was the only downer of the whole meet, as far as I'm concerned. We need a real "BPU" class which is open to all cars with reasonable mods...the fact that my turbo has a 60 trim shouldn't make any damn difference....!
This SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys all had great fun and I ended up stuck at home and working 14 hour days the whole time. Unfortunately, the paycheck has to come first. Can't afford the toys without it. The closest I got this year was packing and then unpacking the car........
Glad you all had a great time!
Leslie, we missed you and were worried about you and the Toad. Next year, remember: Don't answer the damn phone!!
Anyway, I loved the meet. I'm already looking forward to next year!
Pics will be coming...I don't want to d/l them from the camera until I have a reliable hard drive in the 'puter I have set up for that. I'll put them up on my server afterwards and post the URL.

so Chris is the mk4 owner who threw a temper tantrum?
Nope, actually he's a MkIII turbo owner from Fresno/Bay Area who ummm...hahahahahaha...met a 'special' girl at a club in Vegas friday night, but was too drunk to realize that she was really a "he"... and also had his guy stuff surgically removed etc etc and the ummm the transformation was complete.
Hahahahahaha and yes 'stuff' happened between them. I'm still laughing my ass off over this one. The guys who were there even tried to warn him, but he wouldn't pay any attention, so....they let him find out the hard way.

so Chris is the mk4 owner who threw a temper tantrum?
Nope...this is a really high-profile guy who had the rwhp record at the dyno a while back and is as rich as God, but yelled at Keith because the owner of the dyno said he owed them $100 for a couple of dyno runs a few years ago. The dyno owner offered to setlle up for $50...the guy still bitched and moaned for a while but finally coughed up the cash when he was told that he wouldn't dyno if he didn't...after letting us all know that the SILV organizers should be happy to have him there..yada, yada. Needless to say, he won't be invited back next year.
I'm wondering if that guy from Fresno will ever live that one down...she-male. LOL! Poor bastard. Lends new meaning to the old line: "a 10-o'clock 2 is a 2-o'clock 10". Laughed my ass off when Steve told us that story at the BBQ.

Wow, what a meet!! For those who have never attended a SILV, try to make it to next years gathering. Many thanks to the organizers, esp Keith who no doubt is already working on next years event. I know Jim put on a great bbq (sorry I missed it, family things) and worked his but off at the dyno with Chris. Great meeting so many members, beautiful cars! Yes, I got a chance to drive John Nguyens MK2 with the 1JZ and the throttle response and torque curve was awesome. His tires were obviously a limiting factor, but I was all stupid loose in second gear, and that was punching it halfway through second. Many thanks to Aaron, chimpy guy he is, for selling and installing his terrific intake pipe. Wish I got it before the dyno, it feels better. Jay B. surprised everyone with that recent purchase of his black Mk2. Pristine!!! I gotta say black is my favorite color on the car (my car is in the garage and can't hear this). Jay is also a seriously competitive autox driver, it was great fun to share the car with him, Alan G. and my son Karlton (his first autox). Car held together, weather was dry, just wish we could have had more runs. Vegas SCCA usually give 8-10 runs a day, but due to scheduling changes we "only" had 4 runs each. Still it was terrific fun. Next year I fully expect some tuned 6m motors to lay down some tough numbers on the dyno, so my little 5mge will be looking for some more hp this winter :)
Glad to hear everyone is getting home ok (sorry John) and maybe next year Christian will get those thumbs in competitive condition :)

Large Larry, nice meeting you and thanks for your help on the intake. It was a group chimpy job and I appreciate it :)
After seeing all the great turbo installs, I understand why there are not more tuned n/a motors out there. Guess it just gives me another chance at that n/a dyno trophy next year :)
Hey, Jay B. was the guy to watch on the autox sunday!! He was fast and smooth in my car, very impressive.
Hope to see you all again !

I posted my pics in the gallery SILV thread, and a cool story.
Man I don't even know where to start, what an amazing 6 days. So many cool things. Big thanks do Don for letting me drive his car, the thing felt like a race car. The 167 hp was very noticable too, I should be around there soon. It was great talking with you Don, I'll let you know how my fuel tunning goes.
Big thanks to John too for letting me drive his 1jz mk2 as well. The concept of what fast is has been completely skewed in my brain now. John's car felt like an oem toyota, but with balls of steel. So smooth and drivable. You step on it at 2k and it feels slugish, much like a 4age. Then boost builds and by the time 4k hits your being pushed very hard into your seat and 4 to 7k is a blur. It was fast but not crazy fast or scary, very nice. Then Dave S took me for a ride and that was crazy fast. Again, not as insane as you'd think though (well I have driven the CFX supra before lol). I can easily see how boost is addicting, I'm glad I'm not going down that road right now  Big thanks to Bob for driving me around all weekend, always a pleasure. His 120mph 330rwhp boost runs were quite entertaining as well :D
It was great to meet Steve Sidman finally. Very nice guy and his sense of humor definatly comes across in person as well. Dave S and his wife are really cool people. And just in case you were wondering, Dave is very inteligent and cohesive and does not talk at all like how he writes here  Forum scrawl can be very deceiving. John and Don are both the nicest people you could ever meet, very humble and helpful. And Zank is cool too, it was great to meet you man. He didn't try to grab my ass even once (and I went for a ride in his car too) :P It was also great fun riding down with Larry and Aaron G, it was great to get to know you guys. Ah the adventures we had traveling there and back, I could fill pages covering all those. Running out of gas in the middle of the desert, a gazzilion wrong turns, driving up a highway exit going the wrong way in the middle of the night, multiple uses of those service roads to cross over to the other side of the highway, the crazy hunter, the giant mutant sheep dogs, the bridge to nowhere, the "short" girl, and taking my car for a spin in WA when we got back to test out the new susp. Ah, good memories. Can't wait for next year, I'll be coming down in my 100 percent complete 85 for sure.

WHEW! I just got home. I need a vacation to recover from my "vacation".
I knew the drags were going to be troublesome. It is like herding ducks - and the only person I've ever known to herd ducks successfully is Lance Burton.
The Scenic Drive was BEAUTIFUL! The Show-and-Shine was INCREDIBLE! The morning session of the Dyno Challenge was beyond all expectations. The Drag Showdown was still our most troublesome activity.
I want to thank all the MkII guys for coming out. The MkII turnout was the highest yet for this event. Total participation at the Show-and-Shine was finally back on track with our record of 150 Supras in 1999.
I am sifting through more than 1000 images and hope to have them online soon.

Funny stories everyone!!! Keep adding to the thread!!!
Robert!!! So THAT was the problem??? That explains my bumpy ride on the dyno!!! Oh well.
Christian!! Somedays I wonder about you!! And you didn't even go near Jim's playstation this year!!!
So let's see... Monday: Left Vegas around 9:00 AM Stayed pretty much on schedule. Due to a series of multiple snafu's in Sacramento, we lost about an hour's worth of drive time. Main goal for the first day, was Medford, OR, Weed, CA was more realistic, but we ended up in Redding for the first night. Left Tuesday morning. I made a minor little detour to a junkyard in Tumwater, WA that I had not been to all summer, arrived home around 6:00 PM. Very uneventfull drive home. Unpacked, started a load of laundry, went & started the Silver Slug (fired right up after not being driven for 12 days) and went to my GF's place. Still trying to wind down after the long drive, am VERY glad I took today off & don't have to go back to work until Thursday. Am hoping everyone else made it home safely!!!
Thanks to everyone who came this year that made SILV 2K4 a big success!!! And Leslie, I'm glad that everything is fine!! Was bummed that you didn't make it, but I understand!!!
so Chris is the mk4 owner who threw a temper tantrum?
For those of you who were near the back table when Saad decided to have a hissy fit (and moi was standing right next to him).... I'll just leave it at that... I was right in the middle of figuring out the MKII & MKIII dyno winners when "this" started.... I was not in the mood to listen to this... So shoot me if I mention names, because I was pretty annoyed.... Needless to say, the afternoon session was VERY VERY stressful for myself & Jim Coble, & this did not help. So for those of you who were still not sure who it was, here's a BIG clue!!!
Stephen's story does not need repeating.... Even though I did not say much when he first told us, it was pretty damn funny & I was busting a gut inside!!! I think I was basically in shock that this really happened!!!

Hello all,
Thanks for a good meet this year. Unfortunately, my sleeping pattern didn't allow me to go on the scenic drive(4 hours of sleep after a 12 hour drive). The MKII showings are getting alot better. 23 was the total that I counted at the show and shine. We are catching up with the MKIII showing. The drags were a drag to try and just have fun instead of going head to head with bpu mkIV's. They were still a blast though. Running head to head with Dave was exciting enough for me. I did get a response back from "The Strip" and they apologized for the lack of track prep but they got onto their soap box and explained the cost of track prep and blahblahblah. Maybe next year Dave will be able to hook up and give you all some 12s.

Kam: "Hey Jay, come take my car out for a spin."
Jay: "Ok, sweet!"
Kam: "Hey, uh, there's quite a bit of throttle oversteer in the car. So, just make sure if it starts to come around, get on the throttle."
Jay: "Oh, not a problem."
AFTER THE RUN
Jay: "Holy crap, you weren't kidding, this car DOES come around! I'm really surprised to see how tail-happy a FWD car can be."
Kam: "yep! I dialed in a bit more oversteer in it to get it to pivot."
I wish i had it on film... it was quite entertaining watching Jay driving my car. I'm sure it surprised him far more than i could tell him.

Another sucessful SILV. Thanks to everyone who helped make it another great event. The bbq went very well, this is looking like it could turn into a tradition. :wedrunk:
Dave Shepard and I ended up racing a couple of my Honda scooters around the neigborhood, neck and neck at a breakneck 35mph! :shocked!: What fun!
Then John let me and just about everyone drive his 86 with the 1j. I raced a new mustang gt while out "testing it". Poor guy didn't stand a chance.
I let a few more people in on my engine detailing secrets, Chris Eng, James Noyes, and Bob Sully. No dirty engines next year guys :naughty: . My house became "detail central" Chris Eng and I managed to keep James working on his car in my driveway till 3:30am! Yeah we're nuts.
At the dynos, one of the local guys came in while we were at lunch and laid down a 704whp pull with his mk3. 7mgte with stock internals believe it or not. I guess no one told these guys that you're not supposed to be able to get that kind of power from a 7m. It's got a huge turbo, homemade intake, 100 shot nitrous, and various fuel system and electronics upgrades. His brother has the same setup in his mkII but hasn't gotten it tuned right yet. The mkII should put down about 575 at the wheels with out nitrous. Another local with a mk3 put down 799whp with nitrous after we had finished the official dynos.
7mgte with some internal mods and also a huge turbo. Total sleepers unless you see under the hood. No wonder nobody wants to race when I take out the supra. :eek2:
Another great event thanks Keith Hart and everyone else who worked so hard to put this all together. Can't wait till next year.

Well I finally got to meet Sidman, Monkeyboy, Larry, Don L and a few other mk2 members I havent gotten to meet in person yet :P They were just what I expected. I was really hopping to see Leslie this year aswell, but I guess he had a last minute change of plans :(
well the first day I was there I went directly to the Luxor parking Garage. While waiting there my cousin and I worked on changing his rear shocks. Then I started working on Alex's car changing his new Valve covers, MSD wires, and tuning his car. We were there from like 10pm till 2am working on the cars and waiting for whoever came in
Thursday morning I went out to eat at a Buffet with Alex, Andrew (blue85) and my cousins. After that we went gokarting, which was tons of fun to do. Later that night We went over to the Luxor Garage to meet up with Sidman.........and low and behold there was a hairy ass monkey boy walking around with some Large white boy. It turned out to be Aaron Garney and Large Larry :P Later that night Aaron, Larry and my crew went out to eat and hung out at a parking lot. There Aaron, Larry and Alex had a three man symphony of the Ass trumpet.....
Then on Friday during the Show and shine I just sat in the shade drinking Coronas :drinking: with Alex, Mark, Larry and Monkey boy :P ..... this year I didnt really walk around looking at all the supras in the sun...I knew better I just sat in the shade kicking back most of the afternoon.
Well I got my ass kicked at the dynos again this year  well at least I beat an NA mk3 :P The drags sucked, we only got in 5 runs  and they kicked us (NA mk2's) out for a few runs  I think there was only four NA supras out there all four being mk2's. I got my fastest run in that night at the very last race.... I ran a 16.030 .03 faster than whats posted in the race section
Well that about wraps it up for my stay at Vegas

No they are not. I wish a copy of the voting ballot that everyone gets in their registration packet was available online, but pretty much the only time I see it, is when I register when I drive the car into the S&S. Voting is between 2 - 4 PM, then we turn our ballots in. The guidelines are all stated on the ballots and the different classes are listed on the schedule/brochure that is part of your registration packet. As much as I like John's car, it definitely deserved Best Engine, but for Best of Show Wild, it's pretty much anything goes & they ask you to look at the complete package. Interior, wheels, paint, engine, body kits, you name it. Our main problem is that on the voting ballots, EVERYBODY is voting on all catagories in ALL generations!! This means that for us MKII owners, we also have to look at everything in the MKIII's, and the MKIV's.. Same goes with the MKIII owners & the MKIV owners. Because the MKIII & MKIV owners are also voting on who gets awards for the MKII's, the newer Gen owners are sometimes not really sure what would qualify for "Wild" on a MKII in this case (in past years, Best Wild usually went to Don Culbertson for obvious reasons, based on the complete package & what he had done to Agatha). Also because there are more MKIII's & MKIV's owners, guess how the the majority of the vote swayed...
Personally, for Best Wild MKII (based on looking at the "complete package"), I voted for Christian (Racefiend), based on the paint, front bumper, the Braids, and the 7M install.
For me obviously, I had no problems voting in the MKII's because I pretty much knew all of the cars. In the other Gen's, I had probs voting in 1 catagory for each Gen. Best Stereo MKIII was very hard because either nothing really stood out, or mainly because the majority of the peeps had their trunks shut. I believe I also had problems w/ Best Interior MKIV, because again nothing really stood out. I don't think Ian Poular or Michelle Uchida were showing their cars this year (Michelle won Best Interior for the last 2 years), so this took awhile.
Keith has tried to define the voting guidelines as much as possible, but he has admitted, it still needs some tweaking. The main thing is that he INSISTS on all participants vote on all catagories in all Gen's, not just have MKII owners vote only on MKII's, MKIII's/MKIII's, yada, yada.... Things still just need to be refined a little bit more.
And here is a FYI that Keith has told me in the past that he reminded me about again this year, because other peeps have asked as well. Even if I'm the only person who shows up, we will NOT be having any MKI award catagories in any activities in the foreseeable future, UNLESS WE CAN GET AT LEAST 10 OR MORE MKI's to attend the meet. I know what my excuse is, the rest of you better get cracking & start looking for those MKI project cars & start restoring!! And bring them to Vegas!!!
And a reminder to the newbies that are having a panic attack about this particular Vegas activity... THIS IS NOT A CONTEST!!!! PLEASE BRING your restoration project/work in progress, even if it currently looks like rolling crap on wheels!! We did have a few MKIII project cars participate this year, even though they were still in primer. The guy who did the V8 conversion in his MKIII, it was nowhere close to show quality, the car was not even washed!! We just want YOU and YOUR SUPRA to participate, REGARDLESS of what it currently looks like.
(Done babbling for now....).

Thanks for the replies and insight Chris and Larry.
SILV does sound a lot laid back compared to say anything concourse, iasca or 'eastern' shows like Carlile (sp?).
A decade ago, I attended and competed at several different events (in the East) and the cars that won were not even driven, but rather trailered to the 'competitions'. No matter what type of event (ex. classic, sound, etc.) it was, nothing beats Cubic Dollars. I only placed in sound competitions because that was a 'car' competition that the majority of the points are gained with your eyes closed.
I like the idea of going to a show with the emphasis on seeing other like cars rather than missing most of the other cars because you are busy trying to get the most points on your personal car. And I usually don't wear a belt so I won't return home with contused thumbs...
For a format like SLIV, may I suggest to the organizers that the ballots count double for the same generation - MkII owner ballot for a MkII class as I haven't spent months/years working on another generation supra.

Double interesting Idea. I think there should be a special award the mk2 owners give one owner a year. This is an mk2 owner only vote. It could be called mk2 onwer(fanatic) of the year. first year goes to Dr. Eng. what do you guys think?

For a format like SLIV, may I suggest to the organizers that the ballots count double for the same generation - MkII owner ballot for a MkII class as I haven't spent months/years working on another generation supra.
The information packet/voting ballots are handed out at random, depending on "where" you are waiting in line to get into the S&S. You could have packet number 10, a MKIV could have packet number 11, another MKIV could have #12, a MKIII could have #13, a MKII could have #18, etc etc..... Each envelope holding the packet information has a number on the outside, along with your dashboard information placecard (has the same number), but your voting ballot does not. Again, it's all random. So the points thing will not work at all.

Seperate award that we could hand out, during our Generation activity. Has nothing to do w/ the Show & Shine, and since this is a generation specific award that does not really involve voting from peeps from other generations, I'm 98% sure Keith will shoot this idea down. It's a good idea, but probably more suited to something that can be included in the Generation activity. Then of course, this is assuming that "said" recipient of the award is actually coming to the Vegas meet, as well as the Generation activity (ie: you noticed that not EVERYBODY in the MKII group at the S&S came to the BBQ afterwards??).
There are advantages of knowing the Event Coordinators & have a pretty good idea of how they want to do things.... Depending on how much information they will leak to me...
Now if your talking about general awards "in general", see the poll that we had earlier this year. Can't remember who started it, I believe it was Zankmeister...

Hey guys... Thanks for the awesome MkII turnout! It was GREAT to see so many of you guys representing this year.
I will be the first to admit that things don't always go as planned. Take a look at the Mild/Wild voting for the MkIIIs (I think the MkIVs are the only group to get it right 100%). We had Ernest (clearly the Wild winner) and Duane (he SHOULD have been counted as wild). These two came in first and second for both Mild AND Wild respectively. The third place winner in Mild was 20 votes behind with only 6 votes.
My goal is to take the Best of Show votes away from the popular choice method we've been using and have formal judging that are looking at specific criteria. But what criteria and who will judge?
I do not demand that anyone fills out the entire ballot. I will reward those that do... but it doesn't make any difference to me if people don't fill in the whole ballot.
Best of Show Mild did have some guidelines - "Allowed Modifications include: Basic Bolt-ons, Wheels, Suspension, Factory JDM Parts, Front Lips, Brakes, Wings, Hoods, Turbo Upgrades (stock sized turbo housing)." These were posted online and in the information packet as well as on the voting ballot itself.
Best of Show Wild is pretty easy to figure out after that.
The original intent of SILV is to be a place where Supra owners come together to celebrate and see what has been done. We do give away some awards to attract the BIG guys so that we can get up close and personal with them and their Supras. Imagine what would happen if we had the same activities without any awards? Sure... I'd still be there... Chris Eng would still be there... and a bunch of you would still be there. But where is the incentive for those 1000+hp guys to show up and WOW us?
We are always looking for more ideas to make 2005 even better. Please email ideas to SILV@Supras.org.

I wasn't suggesting a points thing Chris. Even random queues can be handled by just having three different color ballots for MkII,III,IV (left out MkI for this example). You get the same random # 'packet', but the registration packet giver looks at your car and gives you the right color ballot. Then, you could still do as you did in years past, and sort by color and add the votes in the second color sorted count.
Agreed, there needs to be clearer guidelines established to give the voter an idea of what class to vote a car in. I just see a 'rift' of attitudes of what is a great example of a specific generation of car, especially if you never owned / restored one.
The perfect example is the proposal to take 'best of show' away from the entrants. Obviously, the voting is skewed by entrants who 'don't have a clue' in every generation but the MkIV's. 'Control' of the voting can be accomplished to SILV ideals by taking it away from the entrants, Or 'prorating' by generation ownership. I'm not criticizing the way it was done in the past, but offering suggestions to make the event better for all generations of Supra.
All gens will still come to properly credit the 1000 hp MkIV's.

I like the idea of the double points being assigned for votes in your own generation. I think all that would be needed to do that is to have a line on the vote sheet that asks for the generation of your own car (or the generation you feel the most for if say your a mk2 guy but had to bring the mk4 ie). As for the wild mild thing, maybe when the cars come through the gate and the car info sheets are handed out, the guy at the gate could make a quick decesion and label the car as mild or wild on the car info sheet that has the owner name and number?
A hand picked judge panel would be the most fair but that would take alot more orginization, more time and would require the owners of the cars to be at their car when its being judged so they can describe all the mods and give them the tour. Also the current system forces everyone to take the time to look at the other generations, which they might not do otherwise.

Just got my computer fixed.. sorry for the late post.
You are all welcome! I was not afraid to let anyone drive the car just worried about the tires and the chimp!! The engine is basically stock. I only had enough money and time to have stock engine and I will begin to get some upgrades soon.
287 horse around 10-11psi., it's what I expected. We did try high boost setting (14.5)but the ecu did not like it.
I am already looking forward to next year. This year's meet for me was more fun because I knew some poeple from last year and met some new ones. Thank you Jim for the bbq I had alot of fun there and I'm sure other members did too!! A few of the member's did not get to drive my car i did noticed. Don't worry I will be happy to let the "un driven" drive my car at the next meets with good tires.
I am very happy to be in this forum "CELICA SUPRA". As this is the major reason I kept my car for good.. I hope..
PS.. if I don't make more power then I will have the 2jzgte in it!!!!!!!!

Why have a 2 turbos that will take alot longer to boost up while you can have single have big turbo!!!! 8)
:pat:
A sequential twin turbo system has two smaller turbos which activate in sequence (thus the name  ). Since there are two of them, they achieve the same boost level as a larger single turbo when they are both operating.
The beifit of such a system is that when the engine is operating at lower RPMs only one of the turbos will be active. This spools much faster, since there is less of a turbine for the same amount of exhaust gas to move then in an equivilant single turbo setup.
When you have one really big turbo (IE, larger then equivilent to the given twin turbo we've been discussing), it will of course produce more maximum boost. However, it will take much longer to get there.
So what's actually true is the complete opposite of what you said.
(in theory)
