mk2 project 2.0 5m~~>1jzgte
i finally found another mk2, my brother-in-laws girlfrinds dad(sounds fucked up huh?) has an 84 thats been sitting in his driveway for about 6 years, only started about 2 times a month to keep the fluids flowing. the car has around 80,000 original miles on it, and im getting it cheap... just needs paint (whoopty doo.. my fathers a painter
), and tires. ill be picking it up next month.
so now that i finally found the car, im gonna do the engine swap that ive dreamed (the 1jz) of since i had my 85 that got towed last year
... i hope all you vacaville/fairfield guys got some good parts off it.
now im assuming this is gonna cost me some bucks, but thats ok, i can get a nice front clip from a place in sacramento for a decent price, and i have the facilities, and im a wiring god (not really, but it doesnt phase me).
now, other than fuel pump, engine mount, exhaust, intercooler piping and wiring... ill probably have a driveshaft made too while im at it... are there any other parts i need to put on my shoping list? will the stock rear end hold the power of the 1jz? or should i just invest in a better aftermarket?
im actually kinda supprised theres not a sticky on a 1jz/2jz shopping list and average price of the swap. for everyone thats done it, whats the average tiem its taken from drop in to starting up of the car for the first time? think its doable in a month?DOWNLOAD THE MODIFIED TSRM BY CLICKING HERE!

Just remember that in California, there's no way you'll get through the smog referee legally with a 1JZ. 7M or 2JZ - OK; 1JZ - no way.

If you get a 5spd clip with ecu, harness, igniter and map sensor, I'd expect to spend $1500-$2k on top of that easy, much more if you go to a shop for the intercooler and full exhaust.
Hmm I would add to your list:
electric fans, 2jz water pump and pulley unless you use the 1jz hydraulic fan somehow
power steering/ac lines
front sump pan if your clip is from a jza70
misc engine parts (gaskets, belts, seals, this will add up to $200)
upgraded clutch if you so desire
clutch line
mk2 auto trans x-member
I spent about $1500 on top of the clip, excluding the trip to the exhaust shop, and I did not run an intercooler. It's a pretty expensive deal unfortunately.

i know a guy up in chico that will do a full 3" exhaust for me for $150, i could probably talk him into bending me some intercooler piping while im at it. the clip im looking at is from a chaser, im trying to avoid a supra front clip because i dont wanna look for an oil pan. it is 5 speed--will that tranny fit in the current mk2 or will i have to find different?
i have time since i wont have the car till next month, i just wanna try and get everything ready and try to complete the swap -- minus exhaust, intercooler piping and driveshaft -- running in about 2 weeks. after i get it in adn running, i have all the time in the world to get it towed up to get the exhaust and other goodies.DOWNLOAD THE MODIFIED TSRM BY CLICKING HERE!

You obviously haven't done a lot of research. The 2JZ swap has been thoroughly documented for well over a year:

This includes a price list (wrong currency for you, but you get the idea):

oh yeah. bookmark norbie's site, or make it your home page, for a while. if you have a lot of money left over, fly to australia and take him out for a few beers 'cause you'll owe him big time!

hell, to do that i just need to find a trip going out there and beg a crew to let me go... maybe play flying crew chief for a day or something
we get maybe 2-3 trips of year to the land down under.
oh yeah i lied... its an 83 with 120,000 miles on it, 5 speed, straight body, no rust, clean as hell (not even a rip in the drivers seat)... and (ewwwwW) a sunroof. talked to my brother in law last night about it since he can see the car, and i made him explain everything to me about the car. its 2 hours up north, and the mmustang gets shitty gas mileage to go see for myself

Make darn sure that the front clip DOES include the ECU!!
Also which 1JZ-GTE are you getting??? The usual 1J w/ the non-sequential twins, or a newer one, like what John Nguyen did?? (He did a 1JZ-GTE that is the vvti version that came from a 98 Chaser that has a big single, rather than twins)...
The one person to talk to up here in the US, would of course be John (celicasupravvti).
Only thing to be aware of, is that if you plan to do the newer motor, definitely talk to John. His install cost him $10K (yes, we did asked him in Vegas), most was because of the custom fabrication that he had to do. Can't remember how long it took him to do this conversion.Chris Eng

once the time comes and the swap is in progress, you can guarentee ill have a fw questions... most common one will be probably something along the lines of "what the fuck is this [insert pic here]?"
im looking to get a front clip that ISNT vvti, becuase for 1 i dont want it, and 2 its more of a pain in the ass from what ive read. as long as i can keep away from fabricating parts, i should be fine and hopefully under the 10k mark

building your parts is interesting and a great learning experiance. as long long as u have the cash to buy the tools and then the patience to learn. as they will pay for themselves, especally if u can do work for friends for cash.
