2JZ-GE UNEVEN idling!
ok, so today, after finishing with the power-steering system, I put oil in it, then put coolant in the engine and started it to warm up... good news was, no leaks were found from any of the systems. about 1min later, the idling started to go uneven, like waves! not realy rough idling, just wave-like idling, going up and down.
did I forget to wire something, or is this from the fuel pump? I don't know if this engine has the extra valve which rgulates the fuel supply. like the 5MG does?!
what do you guys think is the problem?
if it the fuel pump, I will stick in the original Lexus one, although I wanna be sure it is the pump first.
thank you in advance,
punky

Did you touch the distributor at all? My motor did the same thing and it was a timing issue. Also check PCV valve, exhast leaks, vacume leaks, idle adjust screw, and possibly AFM.
Supra-less.
Empty Spot in the garage.

oh, the engine only has its first catalyzer on, and the second one, and the rest of the ex. system are not on yet, so is the sub heated oxygen sensor (the third one-it's california spec).
the oil level warning light is not yet wired as well, but evrything else seems to be in order... the idle I have not touched...yet, and hope not to, if it is possible to keep things OEM.
hmmm, will play with it again tomorrow...

ok, so the uneven idling the other day changed into no idling at all!...
so after an hour with the multimeter, had triple checked the wires: nothing wrong! I then unplugged the AFM plug, and nothing changed in the behaviour of the engine: it starts up, and 2 seconds later stops! well, now I knew it was the AFM, (after few trys the car started without the AFM burning extremely rich!). what I had done was to have the hot wire from the coil to the distributor cap passing very nearly and over the plastic box of the Fuji Electronics AFM. Once the wire went under and further out, the AFM came back to life and now the engine is working fine...
.
meanwhile, I was scared the AFM busted or someting, so I got me a spare one from a 7M-GTE, which is like one number before the one for the 2JZ, so I suppose it will work, I have to test this one of those days.
anyways, in the car and my first drive in the garage and boom, one connection of my newly built power-steering lines pops out, oil drexton III all over the damn floor... a mess!
back to the car jack, and off to get me a flexible 10mm metal line off the GPL service, with the aproprite high pressure attachments. 1 hour later the new line is almost ready, looks so much better, and tomorrow, I will vinish the return one (much easier, as it is not under such a high pressure).
last thing which I had trouble with was the rear muffler... need one which fits in the original place (600 x 300mm) with 65mm internal diameter entry... after a 2 day search in the junk yards, I found none which would be suitable... a phone call to a friend, and few hours later he finds me the perfect one, brand new, and very reasonable price.
should be coming in here after tomorrow...
any ideas on the possibility to fit the ECU and still use the glove box, is that physically possible? I have serious doubts, but have not yet tryed it out.

I just put my ECU in the same location as stock, assuming the glove box would line up, I don't know since my box is never going back in, making a panel for some more important things.

12-11-2005, 09:47 PM #6Iput my 2jz ECU in the same place as the 5M and took out the top of the glove box (interior of glove box is screwed together in two pieces) that way the glove box is usable. You loose the glove box light, but I can live with that.
