    restoration questions...

i have a couple questions on some stuff...

first, how do i remove the vin plate under the hood without damaging it. then when the car is all painted... how do i put it back on?

second.... there is some type of glue/seal between the fender and the body of the car, im assuming it to keep water from getting inbetween the 2 and causing it to rust out. is this seal available? or am i going to have to use something like a silicone sealant.

third... im having a hell of a time removing the seat belt latches. is there something other than th 14mm bolts holding them on... the bolts dont want to come out, they just spin and spin.

    I can answer #3.
There are nuts sort of spot welded on the sides of the trans tunnel. Most likely the welds broke.

    2: No clue

3: Im with him on that. Suprizingly mine came out and back in again. Might have to crawl under and investigate.

    1: I agree

2: I dont believe so. ive taken fenders off two different supra and neither of them were glued on. make supra you got all the bolts. if you do, a previous owner may have glued or caulked it but i really dont see why.

On #3 I ended up cutting the bolt on both driver and passenger. 2 out of 3 cars did this to me. I in the process of doing it now too. No glue in fenders at all just missed a bolt or some paint maybe holding it. #1 removing the plate makes the car very suspicious to later buyers. The older Camaros since the money is so high on them people mess with the vin plate from totaled cars and put them on the less wanted 6cyl cars and pass them off as RS?SS cars. Just a heads up

i just want to remove the vin plate so that i dont have to tape it off when painting it. then ill put it back on after paint is done. also, the vin plate in the windshield is nasty, rusted to shit, im debating on just taking it out completely, or getting a new one made.

the fenders are off, theres just this type of sealer, its a solid strip that looks like it just seals the metal to prevent rust. i know this because its clean, and there are additional holes (not for the bolts) that look too clean to be deteriorated(sp??)

guess ill be crawling under the car to see if i broke the welds... probably did because i heard a pop, then all they did was spin.

#1 drill out the rivets and pop some back in.
#2 yes it is possible there is a strip that seals the fenders to the body, i just finished removing my fenders and i had to pull hard enough to separate the two.

also you could be missing a bolt. there is one hidden under the headlights front grill/foglight bracket has to be removed, also, 2 plastic push type screws in this area. one bolt at the bottom where the bumper secures, one inside the door area right behind the mirror, door has to be fully open to get this one off. one under the headlight cover along the lines of all the rest on the top of the fender.

Are you talking about the top of fenders? In the engine compartment?

If so there is a type of silicone they put in there. Mine still has it.

I guess you could put regular silicone in there.
