Addnum to the Leather Steering Wheel Recovering.

American Stitches also cannot do Blue yet as well (either myself or Jim needs to send in accurate color samples for Blue & Terra Cotta). Also at the moment, they can only do the latter 84 - 86 steering wheels, they cannot do the early 82 - 83 wheels yet. Again, either myself or Jim King needs to send in a earlier wheel, so that AS can copy/digitize the stitching pattern, so they can reproduce the correct locations. Once this is done, then they will be able to do either version of our steering wheels (except for the "other" design wheels that did not get the leather cover & came on the RHD MKII's).

Padding underneath the leather. When Jim did the original GP on the Maroon leather, apparently AS did not realize that we had padding underneath the leather. So they went with the thinner/least expensive padding. Thus on this first GP, the wheel rim does not feel as thick as the original wheel. If we do another GP, we will need to ask for the thicker padding (the padding does come in 2 different thickness's).

Finally, for those w/ Blue wheels who are really desperate to replace their rotting leather, Wheelskinz has a leather covering that is pretty darn accurate in the correct shade of Blue for our MKII interiors. This a DIY install, whereas the American Stitches recover, you will need to send your steering wheel to them.

One final warning on AS. They CAN send recovered wheels to pretty much anyplace outside of the US. When you place your order w/ them, you'll need to tell them to set the value of the contents to a rediculously low amount, otherwise you will get dinged in various import duties.

End price with returned core, $300.

This comes with different toyota yokes for future u-joint replacement.

AND it comes with a new center carrier bearing, which is valued at $90+

In the end, $210 for a rebuilt drive shaft is ok (shipping inclusive)

Replacing the factory u-joint I tried (pita) and punted for a future time.

These sites have the 82-83 model Mk2 side markers, including the lens, the bulb housing (the part that disintegrates), bulb, mounting hardware, and the electrical connector for $13 or so. I've just installed my set, and they are a snap (less than 2 minutes per side) and seem to be of good quality.

They also offer replacement headlight covers, which are the part that you see when the lights are in the down position. Haven't gotten these yet, so I'm not sure what quality they are.

Here's a good place that I just found. Has lots of upgrades. Right now it is pre-set to the 1985 Toyota Supra model year. You can change it very easily to whatever year of Supra you might have though.
