finished doing the install, and by far it was not easy, but it was doable!!!!
total time spent, about 4-5hrs. (had to run back and forth to pc, but certain things didn't work out so i had to figure it out on my own)

the top bezel or lip piece (white item, that replaces the rubber O-ring type piece that goes in between the pegs), i had to use a dremel to make a clean cut along one of the grooves to make it fit ,because it would not turn and sit in.
one side, would slide in, but because the pegs are not removable and the plastic piece was SO unrigid and stiff, i was able to lift up one side slide in one side, than the other.
Getting the rubber and metal ring out was easy, but without removing the top portion of which the shifter sat on, it was a little time consuming, working with such a confined space!
what helps after you're able to remove the metal ring and some parts of the rubber is a dremel. It actually helped in getting out most of the rubber piece and smoothing out the sides.
At the same time, i was carefully removing what rubber pieces was left each time i chipped it to remove it, so that it did not reside inside below the shifter/tranny compartments. (thought that wasn't gonna be a good thing...)
I choose not to use RTV, but this thing at autozone called, "VersaChem, Steel Weld Epoxy System", with a 2hr set time, and has a 2600 psi strenght.
It said it works best with, aluminum, brass, cooper, iron, pewter, stainless steel, and steel, in this case metals, formulated for metals.
I checked this early morning it was hard as hell!!!
About to drive it today and see what happens!!!
but thanks again for the kit!!
What confused me was as i was following your instructions, i couldn't see how you were able to get so close to the old shifter bushing, than i checked out the whole picture, did you drop the tranny to removed the shifter, as seen in this pic,

Pictures taken of the shifter assembly were done outside the car (but I've installed a couple now IN the cars without difficulty).

...just remember, you didn't have the drop the tranny and saved almost $100!

^^^ditto on that Billy, i'm a po' college student, LOL, but if i can work and do it myself, its a buck saved; like i said, thanks for the great awesome upgraded shift kit, but if you're an indivdual that lacks the mechanical experience, or is not visual, or is afraid to take risks, its okay, find someone to help you, its neither easy, nor difficult, but the end results are far more exciting!!!

shifter feels very sturdy, and no sloppy shifter anymore, and alot more fun to drive!!! almost like a brand new car....then when i roll down the window and hear my lifters ticking, i'm reminded that it's a 20+ year old car again X(....

    Just so I'm not confused

Just so I'm not confused you leave the outer metal bit there?

"Ring of metal, ring of rubber, ring of metal"
"One ring of metal (preferrably the inner one) has got to go."

So we leave the outer ring there? Would be easier to remove the outer ring and have the bronze bushing bigger to compensate.
I'm too lazy to type long replies.

    ...yep.

I've got a drawer with a dozen failed bushing designs and specs, and a few of these were my press-in type that removed all layers. It wasn't an easy endeavor, and you run a much higher risk chunking pieces of metal off into the tranny on that one.

My design is open to speculation and redesign, but don't think I've gone into this blindly. ...as much time as you spent thinking about how this could be better, I've spent 10x that, and actually physically attempted it. This is the best design for the majority.

Did mine yesterday...it was just totally butchered inside. I didn't have the inner ring or rubber bit, just the outer ring and that was pretty dented. The new part slid into the leftover outer ring (it was a little on the loose side)...I just put a bunch of epoxy on both pieces, I hope it holds.

I also had a little trouble fitting the new upper bushing in, it would spin around the pins but not sit flat. I just lightly sanded a bit from around the edge until i sat flat. An extra whole 2 minutes.

The shifter feels sooooooooooo..... much better (I have to wait until Monday to drive it - insurance back on then).

Thanks Billy for a great product (and thanks George for stocking them).
    Thanks,
    Gord

    Question

What are all the little green plastics bits? I think I got all of them out. Is this a piece that is neccessary? What is a good grease to use?

    Thanks
