5m motor to a 7m tranny?
Is it possible to bolt a built 5m mottor to a 7mtranny? I was wondering, cuz for my first mk2 i was gunna rebuild and i mean rebuild.....performance..........but i dont know that the 5m tranny will be able to handle all the hp....plus a mechanic told me that the stage 2 clutch i was gunna put in before all this was gunna tear ths $#!+ out or my tranny......is it possible to use the 7m tranny so u can hold more hp?.....Im planing to turbo it, pistons, the whole nine yards....

If you're using the W58 5-speed & the A340E Auto, you should be able to.
If you are doing the R154, I "think" you can.... Clutch setup is different than the clutch setup on a W58. Mr. Sheperd????????Chris Eng

You can do either if you want. The Mk3 w58 is no real upgrade over the MkII tranny. You can use the R154 if you want. You need the flywheel, and entire clutch assy to go with it. And you then need to do all the mods to actually fit it into the MkII (no experience yet here though)

everything should bolt right up. the 7m and 5m have the same block it's just different head and internals. my 88 cressida uses the A340E automatic and it's a 5m. if you plan on using that transmission with a 5m and are gonna use the 5m controller might wanna try talking one from a 87-88 mx-73 cressida they both used the A340E and you can prolly get the ecu too. or at least get the 5m A340E controller from one of them. might have troubles or might be able to just plug stuff right in.

Dont pull down your pants till you need to poop.
Are you going to be making more than 400hp at the rear wheels?

02-03-2004, 06:46 PM #7if he's using the a43de automatic i'tll piss it's pants before it sees 400hp. just take the 5m/a340e controllers form an 87-88 cressida and bolt the sucker in.

i'd say if your not making over 350rwhp then dont bother with the 7m w58 because its not worth it same with the r154. jus stick to the 5m w58 if under 300. and if indeed you do reach over 350rwhp then upgrade to the tru trac.
