    6 spd MKII?

Can a USDM 2JZGTE motor+ 6 spd tranny fit in the MKII? I know the motor would but don;t know about the 6spd tranny. I heard that the 6spd tranny don;t fit the MKIII but is it the same as for the MKII? ANy one that could clear this up for me I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

We are currently discussing this. Check one thread lower than this one in the 2JZ section.

6 speed can be put in but it takes more time and money.

I've seen a few in mk3, and if it can fit in mk3 then it should fit in mk2.

I saw a picture once of a 6 spd in mk2. The shifter was in a funny location. There was no information though.

Basically if you have money anything will fit.

Though the V-160 is a great trans and can put up w/ alot of abuse - it isnt ideal for all applications... In the MKIVtt - they use a 3.13 rear gear and 17" 40 series tire. The few guys I know who insisted on using the 6spd w/ their 2J MKIIIs, they top out around 130mph... Also - you would need to figure out a way to run the electro speedo... The shifter is another issue - it sits back 6"s further or so. It can be modified to work but its just one more hassle to deal w/. The out put shaft is another difference. They are also heavy in comparison to the W-58, though I dont have the exact weight difference. IMO, the pros dont out weigh the cons..

Top out at 130mph you say? The R154 has an overdrive ratio of 0.753:1, while the V160 is slightly shorter at 0.793:1. The reduction in theoretical top speed (assuming you have anough power to redline in top gear) is about 5%, ie barely worth mentioning.

I agree the V160's gearing isn't ideal if you have a very low diff ratio (eg 4.3:1) as it will make first gear so low it's practically useless, thus defeating the purpose of having an extra ratio. However, it's not hard to swap in a taller diff ratio, like the 3.42:1 R&P readily available for the Mk2, which will work pretty well with the V160's gearing.

The particular MKIIIt I am thinking of is a SP67 single turbo 2JZ-GTE and N02 (wicked car) but I could stay w/ him on the highway at 130-135 in my '85 6M MKII that ran 14.0's - turned out that we were both just maxed out (he was bouncing off the limiter). He has the V-160 and the stock 3.73s w/ stock MKIV 17's... There were a few others from this list there that day (heading from englishtown raceway to atco raceway during the '01 NE Supras meet). I think even the 3.42s will be a little steep, especially w/ the 14" tires. I know that the trans can be made to work, I just dont think its worth all the trouble IMO. Good luck w/ it though!

when i can afford it ill be running a 2jzgte with v160 and a 3.42 or 3.727 rear. the v16o will fit, just have to shorten the external shifter linkage, and make a custom tranny crossmember and driveshaft. there is a mkiii that did this and it fit fine. and the v160 case is smaller then an r154 which i am currently running.
