Small drip of oil on driveway

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
    Seeing some oil stains
Just noticed this as I backed the girl out of the driveway the other day. Is there a common bad seal on these cars. I am in love with the 5mge. It doesn't burn any oil!
Besides this drip it is the only leaking out of the car. Dip stick is always full (maybe a bit lower closer to oil changes from this leak)
    Thanks

Are you sure it is oil?

Best bet is to park in the exact same spot it was when it dripped, and look to see what is directly above the drop on the ground.

...asking us which of the possible 400 leak locations yours came from is a crap-shoot at best, and you'll get nothing useful of it.

drain plug is my guess. and a serious guess. if you dont put a new gasket on the plug when chaning the oil it will have a slow drip. but like billy said. park it overnight and then check the next day. shouldnt be hard to spot.

Haha Yup. Old age... still though I am blown away by the old 5mge. I got about 290xxx kms on it doesn't burn oil... not a powerhouse like the turbo engines but she still goes pretty good.
Can't wait to put intake pipe on it and do the valve covers up

There are lots of places the leak could be coming from on the front, since there are four camshaft seals plus the water pump and timing pully. Another possiblity is the rear crank seal. It should be changed when the clutch is changed. If you have auto, then perhaps it has never been changed. Mine is leaking as we speak! If it is the timing pully, a groove wears on the pully from the seal, and merely replacing the seal will do no good. You can get a kit that gives you a thin sleeve to put over the pully plus a new seal. any good garage should be able to get if for you. The timing pully may be a job for the professionals, as the pully bolt is put on with about 150 pound-feet of torque, and is very difficult to get off. I would get the power washer and clean everything very well, warm up the engine, park it, and then you should be able to determine where the leak is coming from. Could also be the valve cover gaskets or the oil pan gasket. If it is the oil pan, often you can just tighten the bolts and it will be fixed. You may have to drop the pan and replace the gasket. Good luck!

Thanks ya don't think its valve covers... nothing dripping down the side of the motor. I am going to redo them this winter and throw new gaskets on anyways
I will check the oil pan thanks... that's where I thought it was coming from. That or the drain plug bolt like william said

You can still get 5mge drain plug gaskets special order from Toyota (10 pack), larger diameter than for newer engines.
...they can get crushed if overtightened Some guys use hard water hose washers, but I prefer the OEM stuff.

If you can't find it after extensive searching, there's a phosphorescent dye that you can put in your oil (about an ounce). Drive around for a day and shine a uv light on the motor and dye in leaking oil will glow. UV lite is prolly expensive so you may want to go to a garage to get it done.
