Orphan's build log. 83 P-Type
I wanted to get a little farther along on my project before I posted a build log. So here goes. I just copied my intro thread and will start from there.
What's up people? I've been enjoying reading through the forum and soaking up knowledge so I decided to introduce myself and my project. I'm a software programmer by trade but my true passion is cars. I perform all my own work except upholstery and machine work. I've owned 2 mr2's over the past 11 years or so and still have my first one. The car is 1983 Supra P-type. The guy that originally owned this car was meticulous in it's maintenance and upkeep. He even took it to the dealership to get the state inspection sticker. Fast forward to about 2000 and the car cut out on him one day and he parked it outside and uncovered where it sat for 9 years. A friend of mine found it and bought it for the paltry sum of $250. He literally rolled his spare change to buy it. He pulled the tank out, cut it in half, cleaned all the rust out, welded it back together and sealed it. Then he changed the fuel pump and it fired right up. I love toyotas. At that point, he did some horsetrading with another friend for an s14 240sx. I then sat for another 3 years or so. I then acquired it after a night of drinking and a few hundred bucks. Now I'm the proud owner of a all original 70k mile 83 Supra (albeit a little rough around the edges). It's going to be a short term project (6-8 months). I plan on making this thing look like it just rolled off the showroom floor with my own little touches along the way.
So far I've done:
. new fuel pump
. new alternator
. cap, rotor, plugs, wires
. replaced all the vacuum hoses under the hood
. brake master cylinder, new brake hydraulic hoses, and pads
. new headlight switch
. refurbished column controls

years of tree sap and mold on the roof

There was a previous repair done on the front. The story is that the original owner gave this car to his daughter to drive for college. She promptly wrecked it and he took it away from her. haha. That's the only accident the car has been in.

Here are years of receipts from the former owner. All but three are from the Toyota dealership.

Like I said, she aint pretty, but she's all there and runs like a top.
Here's the MR2 I've owned for 11+ years. I'm really leaning towards painting the Supra the same color.

Got new tires for the old girl.

I had the old dry-rotted tires pulled off and started sandblasting 28 years of crud off.

All cleaned up.

Time to start polishing.

I started with 600, then 800, 1000 and 1500.
This was after the 800.

After sanding, I hit it with a cotton buffing wheel and white buffing compound, then a little metal polish. Left is polished, right is straight out of the blasting cabinet.

We taped up the polished areas and prepped the rest for paint including putting a little touch of the final color in the lines of the wheel.

My friend laying some paint.

Taped up the color and sprayed the rest of the wheel with a silver we mixed in the shop.

The end result

Old vs New minus centercaps. I've got plans for those as well.

Ding ding ding!! Exactly what I was going to do. That was the only "enhancement" done by previus owner. Im going to put a stock box and intake tube on it once I get further along. I haven't forgot about you, knight. My daily driver civic developed a transmission issue on my way from work so I got to get that sorted out tonight.

By the way chris, you were right. That sticker does say "keep hands away fan starts automatically" it too dark for my crappy cell phone to get a good picture.
