    Castrol purple cleaner

[QUOTE=ABQMK2;765338]Now I need to run this through my friend parts washer at his machine shop..paint it up nice and black, press out the bushings and install my super pro bushings...install all new rear wheel bearings, seals, crush sleeves...put on my rear BBK with cross drilled rotors and wilwood brake calipers with SS braided lines...then bolt up my diff with 3.42 gears and a true trac, slap it up in the car, bolt my shiney Simmons back on....meh...all these parts are sitting on the bench just been collecting dust waiting for me to do this.

Hi, As a paint prep, I like to use Castrol purple cleaner, It has an acid in it that is good to help etch the bare metal ( which is good practice for paint adhesion). It helps De rust metal if soaked long enough in it. That makes it good for cleaning gas tank internal rust as well.
It is not recommended for aluminum parts. But If you don't leave it on aluminum for long or diluted it will give a Satin dull finish on alloy.
You use water to rinse it off and the sun and air compressor to dry it quickly , or you can use a wood stove or torch to dry the parts and all the nooks and crannies. You need to dry it quickly as possible Plus it is oil free and you can do it at home.. Carl H

    ABQMK2,

I hope you added some gussets after your last picture? I did not see any...

P.S. That round piece with two bolts is a harmonic dampener.

    Regards,

    Carlos

IIRC, that's actually a harmonic balancer - something having to do with vibration tuning for the rear end - Damon can explain it better than I can - we talked about them at a NE meet a few years ago.

That balancer, and the reinforcing gusset near the diff mount are 85/86 specific. I wish my 84 had it, as the big power and sticky tires started cracking the whole diff mount off, until I reinforced the shit ouf of it with some welded on steel bar sections.

The balancers are 86 specific actually, not sure about the gusset, 85s may have that too. Will have to remember to check tomorrow.
