    1985 supras

I recently purchased two almost identical 1985 celica supras, one is a 5 speed that doesn't run, did a compresion check 90-90-0-130-130-160 soooo... the other supra is an automatic that the previous owner removed all the interior pieces and removed (and lost) the sunroof otherwise its a high mileage runner. so my plan is to remove the autos motor and place it in the 5 speed no problem there i have a fully functioning shop and a lot of experience. but being new to toyota supras i was looking for some help in assembling a list of things to address during this process. like i'll put a new clutch in it, i'll do the egr clean out, i'm replacing rotten vacuum hose. just looking for the non obvious supra specific stuff. as for rebuilding a motor i'll do the one out of the 5 speed.
    Thanks
    Stu

Just my .02 cents, but when you have the good motor our, go thru it and replace all the seals / gaskets with a good Toyota replacement set. All hoses. Valve guide seals. Fuel Filter (much easier when engine is out of the car!). Drop the tank and replace the pump sock. Diff cover gasket.

I'm sure you'll find more, just take your time and the car will be long lasting. Welcome!

Internet is always cheaper. I have not had much of a problem finding stock parts at oreilly though. Just don't expect to get them that day lol. So far everything but the thermostat has had to be ordered but they at least had it and it was not crazy overpriced.

I like getting "genuine" Toyota for all my parts if they're still available. If you want brands that O'Reilly offers you can go to RockAuto.com and buy from the same brands at a cheaper price. The only bad thing is if you order multiple parts sometimes they ship from numerous warehouses and you pay more for shipping but it'll still be cheaper than buying from O'Reilly. Search google for RockAuto 5% off coupon codes.

Check out the Vendor Section on this forum. Contact Mark from McCord's Vancouver Toyota to get discounts on "genuine" Toyota parts. Also check out BillyM Shift-Bushing Kit for your manual transmission.

+1 on the recommendations of Mark at Vancouver (WA) Toyota and Rabidchimp (near Tacoma) - yes, I know both of them personally.

Rockauto.com sometimes has crazy cheap deals.

You should contact the Spokane Forum Member 84Ptype (Scott) - he knows his stuff, and he knows what has been tried on these forums.

When Removing the engines it is easier if you jack up the rear end, about 30 inches has been mentioned but any height will help the angle of removal be better, I think it is easier to remove the engine and transmission as one unit but there is debate on that, Don't take the Drive shaft apart unless you mark its orientation first, they are specifically balanced and it has been mentioned that a vibration is noticible if not put back on correctly.
