MK3 Supra Engine Swap - Help Please!
Hi guys,
I'm new here! New to the US, new to the site, new to Toyotas and basically an all round newbie! I moved to the US from New Zealand and I've got myself an old 1964 Holden that I'm shipping up here. We're looking for a car for my fiancee and she's really into MK3 Supras - I'm a fan too but our collective knowledge about these cars is super low. We're checking out a few on Craigslist, but she's concerned some of the cars are a bit to 'worked' and we'd probably be looking at swapping out the engine for something a little milder.
Do you guys have any recommendations for a smaller 4cyl that she could get reliability and mileage on? I know, not the most exciting build, but hopefully you guys can help me out!
Cheers!

22re. If you want a 4 cyl get a car made for one. I'd say celica, corolla, or mr2.
1983 P-Type W58 with BillyM shift kit, 84 cluster, and RC intake. RC 2.5" exhaust/Modified Pacesetter. KYB AGXs with ST springs Stage 3 Kmacs and Whiteline adjustable front sway bar.
04 Kawasaki KX250F 12.6:1 BWAHHHH
07 Chevy 1500 (4.3 V6) <-- I'd say it's less reliable than the supra.

Thanks onewhiteguy - checking out that engine now

The Supra I'm looking at has a 7mge - is there any way to get reasonable efficiency out of this engine?

4 cylinder in a mk3 = bad idea.
+1 vote for a Corolla or MR2.
What's reasonable?Joe B.

No worries - we'll probably just try and get the 7mge running clean then. Anyone know any good mechanics in Orange County, CA?

A segway maybe? LOL. Just havin a lend, if the missus is so keen on a mk3 (or supras in general) why not a mk2 ? Both are long in the nose and pop up headlights, fastback, both supras.... What's the missus version of mild? The 5mge that most mk2's come with will still be fun but also drivable or "mild" as you put it. Or you could tone it down to a 5me sohc. (not sure how easy it would be to find one of them in the states)
Onewhiteguy mentioned 22re, it will fit in the mk2 engine bay also(personally a segway will be faster at this point) but definitely more options for an engine transplant with the ability to upgrade to a 7mge in future if wanted.
CheersIf in doubt, drift her out! Steer from the rear! less traction, more action! simple!

Mklll's are heavy cars and the 7mge is not that great on gas. It's an inline 6 non of them where ment to save gas. Look into the 80's celica's Not the supra I mean you can if you want to. But the celica's are the 4 cylinder versions of the supra's.

Why not pick up a last gen Celica? They are super cheap. Like anywhere from 3-7 $K.
Maybe keep the mk3 as a project and stuff a 7mgTe in it.1982 Terra Cotta P-Type
Need boost...
