engine wont run for longer than a second or so....

    hey everyone,
ok so driving home the other night from work there was ahuge lightning storm here in spokane. knocked out my bank somehow cause my debit card wouldnt register. so i couldnt get fuel well i was driving down my driveway and the car just shut off. tried to start it and it didnt wan tto start. figured maybe it was becuase i ran out of gas. so yesterday i got a full gas can and poured it in. went to start it and it ran for a second and stopped. tried it again.. same thing. still does it to this moment in time so im wondering if something else happened. but it will only do the start for a moment about 3 times then just sits there and cranks and doesnt start. if i let it sit for a while it will start up again but only for a second and repeat itself. Any clues guys? not my fuel pump. already unplugged the fuel line and had my brother turn it over and its shooting fuel like no tomorrow.

some what of an update that the fuel pump is pushing fuel but im getting no fuel to the rail. could the tank have gotten low enough that is pumped grime and crap through to the filter and clogged the filter?

Sounds a lot like there is something blocking it. Fuel filter I would assume would be the first thing to check, if there isn't anything in there then maybe a clog somewhere in the line?

well i figured out the fuel line problem. one of the metal fuel lines was bent so bad it was kinking the line but when i bent it back it broke. i did a temporary fix but its still not wanting to start. i have fuel all the way to the injectors. but the injectors for some reason are not wanting to fire. guess its time to start chasing wires. i have checked all fuses and none are blown.

If your car starts AT ALL, you are getting fuel thru the injectors. Check wiring to the AFM. Your symptoms sound like a disconnected AFM plug.

+1 try starting with some throttle, if it starts and then when you let off, it dies, AFM

thanks for the input carfreak, that was where i was headed next. i have a couple of spare AFM's i will see if throwing one in will change anything.

as for the throttle ive tried to start it will the throttle in a little and it hasnt changed anything. i do though remember the times where it will start for a second if i press the gas it will instantly die.

yeah sorry about that. was noticing that it was a bit excessive. ive checked wiring to the AFM. the wires seem to be all in tact and no breaks or non insulated parts of wiring. the only thing i can pin it down to is the afm went bad from the previous owner modifying the AFM by moving the gear. i checked the gear on the spring inside and its so stiff it wont move(yes i pulled up the locking tab)
