Front Suspension Headaches Please Help!!!
Hello guys, I've had a bit of an issue with my front suspension, keeps blowing struts, I've had Monroes, Tokicos's and just installed KYB's on there. Struts seem to be good, for now but for the life of me I am still getting that maddening metallic clink when I hit potholes, I took my time with last install and placed washer under nut where strut plate is as I've heard there is sometimes a gap with lowering springs and that the nylon on the end of the nut prevents one from tightening down as much as it should, for the record I have ST Springs and a 2j which is a supposed to be a bit heavier than the old 5m. In an effort to get to the bottom of this metallic clink I got underneath the car to check condition of coils to see if maybe they are slapping each other and to my surprise I noticed the passenger side spring has most of the coils touching each other, almost like its collapsed, could this be fatigue or sag? I've also noticed that the even with the spring coils touching on the passenger side it sits higher than driver side by about an inch or so. I have springs in their correct orientation and on the correct sides, does anyone have any ideas as to why I would be experiencing this? I'm seriously considering ditching the ST's and going Dobinson at this point. Also maybe this plays into what is going on but, when I reinstalled driver side strut I came across unusual problem in that there was no tension or kick back on control arm, I normally have to pry the hell out of to get strut assembly mounted back onto it, but the last time, I had to bring control arm back to strut housing, is the control arm bushing that gives that tension? Please help as I am at my wits end with the front suspension on my car. Oh and I've read on other forums that it is not uncommon for progressive springs to have some coils touch, I'm not an expert buy any means but I find that weird if the car is just parked with suspension components in unstressed state. Please help, thanks in advance

are you running a shorter strut? seems like you need washer under the strut itself..at the bottom of the strut housing..

I had this problem when I replaced my struts. I had to put washers in the bottom of the tube and it went away.

Thanks for response guys, I will try washer under strut and hopefully that'll take care of clink, any thoughts on uneven height and coils touching on passenger side? Or maybe lack of tension on lower control arm? I really just want to get this problem sorted already, have been fighting with it for some time.

you can try getting strut tube spacers as well...if you're running shorter struts.
T3 makes them but I believe you can check our vendor section as George sells them, under Raptor Racing.

Sorry i wasn't really specific with my setup, I am running gr-2's, not agx's. I thought maybe a washer might be necessary as the clink seems to happen when there is float in suspension, not so much on impact, I checked underneath and the coils arent touching, not quite as much space between them as on driver side. I am going to give suspension a few more days to settle and figure out what it is that is going on.
