5m doesn't turn over every 1 out of 20 starts

I have a really weird issue, basically in a nutshell My manual swapped 5m cressida dies when you push in the clutch after driving for a long period of time or at high rpm (due to either the auto ecu or plugged egr I'm not sure) 19 out of 20 times it fires right back up, but every so often it just does nothing when you turn the key, like the starter is unplugged or something, it just clicks and the dash goes out and nothing happens. The battery is at 12.8 v. Starter is plugged in, connections are good, etc. It will start if it's jumped (w/ car or jump pack) or if it's bump started. It has also started randomly after just waiting for 10 - 15 min. I'm thinking it's obviously a wiring problem but does anyone have experience with this? I find it really odd that it just does and doesn't start at it's own leisure. Thanks, Tyler.

the contacts on the bottom of the solenoid are near the end of their life !

It is easy to replace the contacts when you have the starter assembly on a bench,
but the difficult part is getting it out of the car.

The 2 contacts are like 5$ for both in auto parts.

It is a more a labor repair then parts, cost wise.

That's probably right, It has excessive crank time during the first start of the day too. It usually cranks for like 5-7 seconds then sputters for a few then fires up. Kinda kills me inside lol.
I have a starter from my 4age would the contacts be interchangeable?

Yes it will. I actually made one out of a piece of copper pipe in a pinch. I thought i would be replacing it in a couple weeks. It lasted about 12 years!

I have replaced the starter contacts as above. Easy to do.

But I would check loose battery cable first.
