ammonia for cleaning fuel injector??how to take apart?? fews questions on cleaning

    So awesome thing happened today.
My father is a Goldsmith so I asked him if he could clean my fuel injector in his ultrasonic. The next day he brought a professional grade one home! Sweeeeet!! So now I'm researching on what to use.
Nothing flammable. And my dad said use ammonia. Tough as shit but pretty safe.. for his standards lol.
But is it ok to use?? And can I soak the entire fuel injector in it? Plug and all??
Also. How do u take apart the fuel injector to get to the screen and take of the cap. I have read that u pull it apart with pliers??
I don't don't wanna damage anything so any advice would be awesome!!!!!

    Thanks!

Cleaning your injectors yourself is somewhat useless if you cannot verify your results. Having them flow rated after cleaning will be your only real proof as to whether or not they are flowing within tight tolerances to each other. This is especially important with boosted engines, as variation in flow rate from cylinder to cylinder can cause lean conditions and later cause damage. Remember, a wideband only relates the average AFR over all the cylinders, some could be lean and some rich to produce a health looking AFR. Even though I had a set of 440's I thought were very clean, once I sent them in I learned one was dead on arrival (completely clogged):

Notice how one injector (#5) was completely clogged and allowed no fuel through while under pressure. If they hadn't been forward and back-flow cleaned, it most likely would have never performed correctly. Also take a look at how tightly they flowed together after the cleaning compared to originally.

You may want to spring to have them tested afterward, you can never be too cautious and it isn't that expensive. Also replace all the seals and filter baskets as they can become pretty crusty:

Of course, if you use witchhunter or any other similar company they should replace all the seals and filter baskets in their asking price:

Not sure about ammonia being a good cleaner. For Gold (Au) my bet is your father is looking for something with a good Positive Charge to remove/bind with things that are in solution so they don't bind with the Gold, Ionic Bonding. When I was in school we used the "Like dissolves Like" Theory when addressing how to dissolve things (we were actually trying to get them out of a "sample" where you need to know what solvent you start with and analyze for anything else that come out with your solvent). So Gasoline is a carbon based molecule CH3-(n)CH2-CH3 for Octane n=6, Ammonia (NH3) doesn't seem to me to be anything like a carbon based moleclue so, in my oppinnion, it will not dissolve the build up in the injectors. The Sonic action itself may be useful but that would be mechanical removal not chemical removal, unfortunately the Flammable Solvents are what you need, because well let's face it Gasoline is Flammable, Like dissolves Like.

Also "Pretty Safe" is relative, Caustic burns can be just as bad as Acid burns but they don't generate as much heat. They actually absorb into the skin and react subcutaneously. So don't be too secure with Ammonia. Also if you do use Ammonia make sure you use it in a well ventalated area also so you don't get overcome by the fumes.

Try concentrated fuel injector cleaner additive. the stuff you add to your gas tank. Try to get methanol free formula, methanol is a great cleaner but very corrosive and damages your central nervous system if inhaled or asorbed through your skin. you should be able to find this stuff easily as it is on the shelf at most auto parts stores, gas stations and walmart. Would have replied sooner but i just came across this thread.
