    DIYPNP Set Timing

So after having issues with getting my MKII running well with the DIYPNP and after suggestions I reburned the firmware and reburned the base map. Just a quick static setting of the timing (85 5M with stock distributor, w/ CT26, 440 injectors, AFM deleted) and plug in of the PNP resulted in a no start. My question now is would I be able to plug in the stock ECU just to start the car to verify timing or would this cause issues? My thoughts would be the AFM delete would cause issue. Other than that, I don't know. I am having difficulty getting the car started and I am not too sure on what I should do setting wise in Tuner Studio. Any pointers would be appreciated. or articles on tuner studio stuff...

have you verified you have spark? if your using the same map you had before you reflashed the firmware, it should run. or did you flash a different version of firmware? if so, go through and verify all your ignition settings are correct for the distributor etc...

stock ecu wont start it without a afm hooked up.

Yes, I'd put the AFM in if you want to test it on the stock ECU, then try getting it running on the MSPNP with AFM before removing the AFM. Easier to go one step at a time.

When troubleshooting a new DIYPNP install, the first thing I'd do is make sure you have an RPM signal in TunerStudio.

this isnt a new install. been on the car for a couple years but has never been "right". when i went to his house, we had timing issues. for some reason, 1 time you would start the car and it would idle at 10deg btdc perfect, then the next time it would be 18deg btdc without changing anything or touching anything. distributor only has 6 teeth and no mechanical or vac advance so idk wtf is goin on with it. its why i had suggested reflashing the firmware ages ago. its very strange.

I will verify spark again but before I reflashed I cranked the car up and it ran, like crap, but it ran. Reflashed, newer firmware, and I currently have the base map that I had started with from the beginning on it (when I reloaded the map it did not give me any errors like it had in the past trying to go back to an old map). I seem to remember that I have had to have the distributor one tooth off, clockwise if I remember right, to time these motors correctly even though in the manual it says to make it so the distributor shaft and pick up are lined up. I wanted to verify that I could at least get the timing "stock" before messing with all of the settings in tuner studio... which sadly, I am still not very confident with...

well if you are on a different firmware, the msq file you had from the old firmware might not be completely compatable. go back through all the settings windows and make sure they are correct.

sadly no update other than making some slight adjustments in tuner studio but since I last worked on the car when I posted I seemed to have lost my keys...
