When I unlock my drivers door, it sets the alarm off as soon as i open the door but the passenger side doesnt. How do i fix this?

Remove the latch mechanism from the drivers door. There's a microswitch on the latch thats supposed to detect the unlocking action and deactivate the alarm. The electrical leads have corroded and probably fallen off completely. Use a dremel with the tiniest ball cutter bit to carefully grind away some of the plastic body of the microswitch from around the terminals to expose enough clean metal and solder the wires back. Then put a big glob of epoxy over the terminals to make the connections more durable and to protect them from ever corroding again.

In the meantime, if you have to use the car and lock it, close the door and lock it from the OUTside with the key - this will prevent the alarm from being set. I've been doing this for a couple of years until I finally get around to fixing the microswitch. Saves one from embarrassment.

Phil,
I have a similar problem. What exactly is the latch mechanism? DO I have to remove the door panel?

Supradad,
I finally got around to taking door panel off to look at problem, also my key lock pushed thru as the bolt that holds it in place came out. I can see what you are referring to but do I have to remove the inner panel? If so, any issues or things I should be aware of.
Thanks,
