Exhaust on my mkii 84
got a couple questionss for you guys!
on my 84 supra i bought the car all original. before i put the car on the road i threw it on my lift and cut from the end of the headers back and replaced the stock exhaust with a 2 1/2'' straight pipe with a little 4 inch sport (muffler ebay) ever since then i started to progressively blow blue smoke and got worse. at first when i put the exhaust on it, it sound mean and loud especially at high rpms 3-5rpm now 3 months after it sadly sounds different more like a honda civic. im wondering if the straight pipe on it causes for no back pressure causing the engine to lose compression and the effect of burning oil? exhaust also has a tiny leak from the header to the 2 1/2'' piping. and final question would be what should i go with for an exhaust system? my idea was to gain power!!! 3'' piping with a high flow cat and a nice lokking sport 4'' muffler, would it in fact gain power or lose???. or any other ideas?!?!? thanks so much guys!

Back pressure is not your smoking problem. Don't run a test pipe in place of the converter, use a short glasspack as a resonator instead. 3" is too big unless you go turbo. Raptor Racing is a good header from what I've read. Research, tons of info here.

Does it smoke constantly or only after idling for a bit or when started up after sitting? These cars have weak valve stem seals, also 3" is too big from what I've learned. It impedes exhaust velocity which is and how quickly exhaust gasses are rushed through system. It is recommended 2.5" for non turbo and 3" for turbo exhaust. I have noticed that although they both causes restriction in exhaust catalytic (hi flow) or resonators really help with sound of exhaust. I could just be getting old and cranky though.

Go 2 1/2" pipe and the "MagnaFlow' Stainless w/Duel bent tips for the best sound.

And it looks and fits great on the Supra.

Or like on this one.

And like on this one too.

I like the deep tone sound of it and it won't set off every car alarm, just some of them. lol

I've got a Tri mil Header on mine (what Raptor Racing's header is based off of IIRC) with the Raptor 2.5 exhaust and Magnaflow muffler. I love the sound and the performance. It's not too loud, and has a healthy deep throaty sound when you really get on the skinny pedal. The most likely reason for the smoke is the valve seals.

I like the sound of a turbo muffler best, but that is a personal thing. You said the fart can you bought on eBay sounded "mean and loud." So I think Magnaflow is a good choice for you. Anything except a cheap fart can that makes your car sound like a used up Honda with LEDs lighting up the rusty underside. :-)
