Clutch chatter, not a Supra question..
But I would appreciate the help. It's for my other car, 1995 Camaro Z28, 102k miles.
So I bought the car with a semi broken clutch. First stick car, so I had some learning to to do. After a year or so it finally broke to the point where the chattering was horrible.
Had someone replace my clutch with a stage 2 clutch from SPEC. Flywheel was resurfaced.... clutch still chatters? -____- I've read that there's some chatter involved with this clutch but the chatter is so bad that makes it look like I can't drive for sh|t. It's not as bad as the broken clutch had it and the chatter is only there sometimes. There will be times where I'm driving the car and chatter is very little to none.
The clutch chatter will minimize to almost none if i rev up to about 1.5k rpms (car idles at 1k rpms) before i start the engaging the clutch. BUT, if I do that.. the car will take off normally, but when I try to shift it to second gear, SOMETIMES it goes straight down to 4th gear. I can't put it in 2nd unless i shift back to first or third (with out actually engaging the gear just shift back with the clutch pedal depressed) and dropping it back to second and then engaging the gear. car will also do that when i don't give it enough gas and i almost stall it. I've replaced the transmission mount.
Clutch chatter is the worst on first gear take off, follwed by reverse. Then after that sometimes I get chatter when shifting sometimes I don't. Downshift I always get some chatter, unless I rev match. I still have about 100 miles left on the clutch break in as Specs "recommended 500 mile break in" I have not done any hard launches, or hard shifts at all.. any input is really appreciated.
I've noticed the clutch only really chatters when it's hot. If I turn the car on at night, and the car was parked for a few hours. The clutch grips lovely. Chatter is very minimal. Or even if I turn it on later afternoon after letting it sit this whole morning, it will start gripping good but if the sun is out, apparently the chatter starts sooner than if it was night and cooler. Yes I know stupid that sounds, but that's what's happening.
Thanks for any input!

Are you sure the flywheel was surfaced??
OR issue with pressure plate hot spots and/or glazed flywheel as well...
I would resurface or get a new flywheel...and change out the pplate to another manufacturer...Regards,
Arch

Yeah I took the flywheel to the shop... but I did go to six flags that day so my dad picked it up. It went through him and the mechanic so someone had to catch it if it wasn't resurfaced(work was done in my backyard not @ a shop).
I'll definitely read up and do some research on that.
Thanks!

Worn out motor mounts can cause clutch chatter also. This seems to go along with your symptoms of worse chatter when it's hot than cold. Hot = pliable/soft rubber mount. Cold = firm rubber mount.

Also, the bolts could have backed out, or one was maybe not torqured.
