I think you're right about the parts from behind the firewall being interchangeable. I was lucky enough to find a complete lock set, including ignition lock cylinder, with the key, from a celica gts at a junk yard and it's now on my car. My car also has a window motor from a celica gts. Any pics?

I am using the the rubber center counsel lid from a gts. Seems to hold up better then the foam. The interior looked almost identical to the supra's.

On the center console, there is a temperature sensor at the rear (next to the little fan). I have no idea if it is in the Celica. It is essential for climate control in the Supra. Unplug it and you get constant full heat regardless of any setting you select on the panel.
