    Engine swap wiring help

As some of you know I'm doing an engine swap, putting a 5m in an old celica. I have come down to wiring and I have a couple of questions. I've searched around and looked at wiring diagrams from the TSRM, and I'm quite sure that the answers are all there for me, but unfortunately wiring is something of a foreign language to me.

So, I have a question on the alternator, I have pigtail ends for the alt from an 83 I believe, I have a large gauge white cable with an eyelet, I have a plug with a large gauge yellow wire, a large gauge black wire and a smaller gauge black wire, and no idea where any of them go... If someone could spell out the simplest way to wire these up to make the alternator do it's job, that would be great.

Also, on an 84 harness, what wires bring power into the ecu? color and or location would be amazing.
Other than that, I have the rest figured.

    Thanks,
    James

Ok, I know you guys like pictures, so I drew up what has already been done on the wiring by the last guy (the fuel pump, AFM and ECU) and what I plan to do, based on my poor understanding of the wiring diagrams in the TSRM, If no one corrects me. I'm lazy so I left out the fuses and fuseable links. I also left out the spark and injectors portion of the wiring, because that part was intact and ready to go.

So, will this work, or will it set my car on fire? please let me know what you guys think.

The TSRM is not a good source of info for wiring. You'd be better off with a TEWD for the car, and a TEWD for the car the motor came from.

A TEWD will tell you what each pin on a harness does, just takes some page flipping to figure it out.

For the alternator, I'd get a 5M one that has the same plug as the Celica chassis has. When it comes to alternators, if it has the same plug, bolts up to the car, and the belt fits, it will work.

I'm no expert but maybe this thread will help you.

Here is a TEWD for a 1985 Supra that I used. If I were you, I would find a TEWD for a 1983 Supra and a TEWD for your old Celica to make sure.

I think the white cable with an eyelet goes to the fusible link box by the battery on the positive cable side (Page 87). 33 Fusible Link Box. The eyelet end connects to the alternator with a nut.

The plug with the yellow wire, a large gauge black wire and a smaller gauge black wire go to the 3E connector (Page 86) that's connected to the fuse panel (Page 85, J/B NO. 3) in the engine bay by the driver side strut tower.

Go here and look at Page 20 and 23. On Page 23 there is a Yellow X connector. Pin 2 (BAT) should be colored Grey/White, Pin 13 (+B) should be colored Blue/Yellow and Pin 14 (+B) should be colored Blue/Yellow. The ECU is located under the dash on the passenger side (Page 85). There should be 3 Yellow connectors on the ECU.

I'm no expert. Get your correct TEWD and verify with an expert.

Stick with the Celica's existing alternator wiring if possible.
