Nothing better than a NA celica supra in my opinion. I liked how the power, handling and braking was balanced. When you start going bigger horse power then you start noticing the handling is not as good and the braking is seriously not sufficient. Just my 2 cents

But then you could always go more power, upgraded brakes and suspension.

10 years ago I would have said modify, but as these cars getting older, I think if you still have an original example, keep it that way.

mine is pretty much original it is my second mk2 i had to let my first one go it was too rusty and the engine was shot less than one year later i got this one rust free and the owner put quite a bit of money into it basically all new front end i was after this car for a long time about 4 years he would not let it go until one day his kid clipped a tree stump with the harmonic balancer car died lol so he sold it to me for 500 dollars......... I had it driving within an hour another harmonic and timing belt later it has an 85 nose cone and hatch now the guy is dying of cancer so i promised him i would build it in his honor since it was his baby i will send pics as soon as i got them

Um, Vernon? I'm guessing the Province of BC. Could be Vernon Calif, Missouri.....

If I wasn't near the USA northern border I would have no idea Vernon BC existed.

To address your power adder question, there are no significant power adders for the 5M, let alone cheap. Even a properly turboed 5M will cost you more than a 7MGTE and still has the chance of producing less HP. The 5M had a lot of potential, but unfortunately never took off in the 80s tuning scene. IMO the 5M should only be kept for a prime stock example of the car, and if you are keeping it stock then aftermarket would not be in the interest of the goal. Exhaust and intake is about all you can do to the 5M without turbo or NOS.

Prolly the biggest gains you will get using the 5M (depending on your current gears) will be to swap around your differential gearing utilizing one of the many gear sets the Supras used, in effort to help your acceleration. If you where to swap to say a 4.30 you should notice quite a difference in the 82, but also high RPMs at freeway speeds, but at least its easy enough to swap the original back in later in case you need it to keep the car true to its production trim.

I'd love to see some pics of this car man. By the way smaller lower hp cars are usually more fun then the high hp cars, so i'd say keep the 5m throw a couple bolt-ons at it and leave it. my $.02
