the more you rev it, the more parts are being ruined, oil pump etc.. alot of times if you hear a knock, and turn it off, u might beable to save alot of parts. but with metal shavings floating around your oil, just making your bill higher the more you run it.,

I detected my knock early on after my rebuild, and didnt have to do shit except bearings, and resize the rods like I shoulda done in the first place. $150 rebuild

I had a similar sound from my first 5m many years ago, the oil filter (fram) had collapsed, a new oil filter fixed the issue before any noted damage occurred
