    Rusty frame..

Hey guys. Im going to be buying a 1980 Toyota Celica Supra. My main question is what this part of the frame is called. It is in the front of the car and almost everything to do with the front wheels mounts to it. There are large bars mounted to them that would function like swingarms on a motorcycle. Not sure what those are called either. This section of frame is rusted through on the driver side right where the swingarm thing mounts for the driver front wheel. It seems to be bolted to the rest of the car and looks remove able and replaceable. About the car, It has a standard 5 speed transmission and a straight 6 with forced air intake. Not sure on the size of the motor... maybe someone could fill me in on that one too? The kid that owns it wants 600 bucks for it. Thats what i offered him due to the rust on the frame. Funny thing is, the rest of the car is completely rust free. Has one large (but easily removeable) dent on the front driverside fender. I test drove it too... Uhhh.. its fast!! burned through first and fired it into second and blasted right the hell up the street. Also has steel racing mags with the holes all the way around. They look awesome on on the car. When i get the title switched over and its safe and sound in my driveway.. a definite fix up thread will be posted. Starters burnt out of it too. I was able to push start it myself on the flat street in second. I swear im in love with this thing. Im actually getting rid of my 76' Ford LTD for it. Trust me, thats a big deal.

    Thanks in advance guys,
    KT

If its only on the drivers side it sounds like battery rust on the front suspension mounting bracket. Likely if you take the battery out you'll find a bunch more rust underneath. Generally speaking if you see rust on these cars there is a lot more you don't see. Your biggest problem is going to be trying to find any parts for a Mk1. Frankly you didn't do too bad since you can sell the rear end for $400-500 to an AE86 guy. The rare times I'll see a mk1 in the junkyards the only thing gone is the rear end A far as pictures go you need to host them externally and link them here.

Ahh alright on the pics. As far as rust goes the rest of the car is probably 90 % rust free. I got underneath it and looked around. Didnt look any worse than the usual surface stuff like on any car. The body is 100 percent solid. Not even any chips in the paint. That battery thing makes sense though because when i looked it was mounted on the driver side of the car. Shock towers looked really solid too. Ill take some pictures with an actual camera and put them on my Facebook and post a link. Anybody know what size motor is in this thing? All i know its its a straight 6 with forced air induction... Oh yea and it makes the car go fast as hell

Its either a 2.6L 4ME ~110hp or a 2.8L 5ME ~116 hp. The data placard on the firewall or the stick on the front of the valve cover should give you a clue to which you have.

Hmmm.. well i called around to some scrapyards and guess what.. none of them have seen a Celica Supra in the their yards for years. No parts no nothin.. well i guess i can get filters and stuff from advance but thats it.. Anyone got a sub frame for sale for my car? I just need that one chunk of frame in the front that unbolts. Ill take one in any condition so long as its solid metal.. Special note- im not a freaking millionaire... i do dishes for a living

Well the part im looking for is called the engine Cradle. The control arms mount to it and it is rusted through where the driver side control arm mounts. IM LEARNING!! haha god you would think working on stuff as much as i do i would know what a control arm was when i saw it.
