Just cause I feel like bragging...27.5mpg!

Some of you may have been following the issues I have had lately in the 7MGTE section. If not, a quick review: About 3 years ago I decided to go 7MGTE in my 84. Lots of help, parts, and advice from everybody here on the forum. After install and about 3500 miles, the motor lost all compression and was basically toast. I pulled the motor last winter and my machine shop stepped up and disassembled, honed and re-ringed, free of labor charges. I just had to purchase the rings and gasket set. Problems caused by a bad tune on the SAFC by a dyno shop in Chicago.

Put the engine in over this past winter, but because of a new job out of town, didn't have much time to get the bugs out. When I finally did, I needed to step up to 550cc injectors. Once wired in I was again having issues with A/F ratios. At the advice of several members here, I ripped out the SAFC to discover it was improperly wired by that same shop in Chicago.

With about 500 miles since the 2nd rebuild, I took the car to Indianapolis last night for the week of work. The drive down is a divided highway, goes thru several towns (i.e. many stoplights), max speed limit is 60mph (I ran 63-64 with the cruise on), boosted only a few times, and the car managed 27.5mpg on the 151 mile trip! To me....thats awesome.

Also, since I haven't driven the car for quite some time, just fell in love with it all over again....I'm sure you guys understand.

That's awesome. I have to gets the bugs worked out of my car. I have a very similar setup, but am only getting at best 17mpg. Most the time 14. I'll have to go through your thread again.

Mid-20's seems standard for all the 7m'd mk2's I've seen.

Likewise, I average 27mpg on highway runs.

Sweet! I've never really taken the time to calculate my mileage in the last year or two. I think shortly after my swap it got 21-23 mpg. Currently my car hasn't had a great tune put on it (at least for fuel efficiency), so I imagine I get 20 mpg or less. I'm having the car tuned Wednesday (the 12th) and I'm hoping that I'll get the best of both worlds (a good tune under load and during cruise). I practically daily the car on nice days (it's been extremely reliable for me), so getting a little better mileage would be a nice change (I also have 373's and an r154, I'm sure the gearing will play a small role compared to the 430's that came stock).

I'm glad to hear your guy's are getting what I consider good mileage!

On a side note, my v8 Jeep get's like 16-17

Nice #s! Every little bit counts these days too.

Before my ghetto fuel tank cleaning and running at 80-90 mph across the country back in 2009, my 6MGE averaged 24mpg in that trip.

After ghetto tank cleaning, dyno tuning the motor to run leaner, best I've seen was 28mpg on a city/highway mixed tank of gas. Usually it's more like 25mpg city though, which is still just fine with me. 4.10 gears too btw
