Hello All,
I am (hopefully) purchasing a 82 Celica Supra this afternoon. So far everything on the car checked out. Its amazingly a one owner car and it looks really clean. I came to this site to try to find details about what mechanical problems to look for when buying an 82 and so far it has been quite useful. The car is 100% stock which I am pretty excited about. I may want to make a few modifications to the car but I want it to look stock on the outside. I don't like cars with lots of visual modifications. If anyone wants to throw in their .02 about 82's id appreciate it. Ill also follow up this post with a picture of the car if I get it. I have wanted a Supra/Celica Supra since the first time I saw one. When I was in highschool I thought I wanted a mkiv with the twin turbo an all that. Over the years I have developed a strong affinity for early 80's cars. I am also a fan of the 280z but its become my dream to get a mkii. This seems like a really good place to learn from people with a lot more experience than me and make sure I take good care of this car assuming everything works out. I currently own an Impreza 2.5i, and before that I had a 99 Prelude that was a lot of fun but just didn't quite fit me.

test drive

When you test drive it should feel very tight and easy to drive and enjoy, I run my tire pressure at 25 PSI so the suspension does not bang as hard on the rough roads in my area, The motor should be whisper quiet and I would expect a few oil leaks after parking over night., Look at the bottom for oil and rust, Body wise they rust at the sun roof corners and rear hatch.

Inspect fluids for being clean and new looking..

Ironically, in the early days of turbocharging with piggyback systems, the 82's were sought after because the electronics are easier to piggyback and the rearend gearing is better for turbocharging.

Well, despite that some people aren't huge fans of the year I got the car. I appreciate the advice from everyone. I like hearing both sides of things. The car ran great when I test drove it, no idle issues and it seemed to have plenty of power to me, it felt very strong getting up to 80 on the highway. It was very clean, the owner ordered it from Toyota so it never even sat at a dealership (she had the papers to prove it) and everything on the car is stock. The mud flaps were taken off of the rear wheels is the only thing I saw. Thanks for the advice everyone for real.

In my Sig? those are 17" Square G6 Wheels. Here is a pic test fit on the L-type, but they aren't really enough positive offset for it (lots of poke in the front and rubbing).
