    5mge Build or 7mge swap?

Okay so im only 16 years old and i purchased a mk2 supra 1982 (Auto)..... Well i was wondering if i should just build the 5mge and make that fast or swap to a 7mge? I only make roughly 400 bucks a month and well i dont want to take months saving. I heard it would take about 1200-1500 for a 7mge swap with a manual swap to. Or should i do a 5mge build and just manual swap? I want to go fast and drift basically so which is my best option? Also can someone help me find a full manual tranny? (Everything so i can just put it in)

I'm sure people are annoyed with me lately but...
Similar issue. It's all in your budget man. But trust me, but more important everyone else on here. 7m swaps are really expensive.
What I recommend... do your intake (Chimp) and exhaust up. Enjoy the car.
I just started to remind myself of this before jumping into an expensive paper weight

Then again Tireshredder... told me he did a 7mge swap for around 1500. So just research I guess.
    And check buy/sell parts out

The engine is $845 plus shipping and it comes with a 1yr warranty. Then you'd need a wiring harness. I believe you'd be able to use the same engine mounts for the 5m, as well as a 5m to w58 bellhousing since they're both M series engines, but I'm not 100% sure. A 5 speed w58 transmission shouldn't be too expensive. Maybe in the $200-500 range depending on who's selling it. You could probably even get lucky and find a w58 at a junk yard for cheaper than that. You'd also need a clutch pedal, which you could get at the same time you get the w58 if you're lucky enough to find a 5 speed mk2 in a junk yard. There's probably a few other little things you'd need, but I think it'd definitely possible to do it within your price range. As 1982 Dragon mentioned, it's been done before. Good luck and please, if you're going to want to drift, do it somewhere far away from walls or other things you could crash into.

Hey man I'm 16 too, and due to the neglected condition of my car, I learned A LOT about auto mechanics and I honestly believe that I learned enough through this car to tell you to save up atleast 1000. And take care of all the important things first. For example the brakes, shocks and struts, and your interior (if you care) because the amount of power the car makes after all those years is still enough to have fun. If your 5m ever craps out on you, go ahead lol. But then again, its your car and if you have the time and money, good luck. Have you checked out the auto to manual swap faq yet? I have a good website for you too.

By the way, you if your looking into performance mods, there really aren't many ways to make the 5m stronger (past 200hp) without doing a frankenstein 6m or goung turbo. You should also look into the poormans bbk. Using the 300zx and rx7 calipers on mp5 and turbo z32 rotors. You can only go as fast as you can brake...

$400 would probably just cover a minimum speeding ticket in these parts ie. for 50km (30mph) over speed limit = $2400 + license suspension/points + car impound.

At 16, trust me, add speed & you're just asking for trouble...I just got dinged $200 today for imprudent driving and I've had a clean driving record for 30 yrs!

    Ya the mk3 R154.
Take Celipra's advice... get a 6m or NA 7m. Unless you got lot's of cash go ahead and turbo. I myself am waiting a year or two... gathering my parts and knowledge and doing it right! But hey go ahead. Post some pics... we love them here.

Oh and 82... that is brutal man! I can't believe that. And BTW 50 over in Ontario is street racing= loose your car and license. Pretty much same or worse as a DUI

Personally, I'm going with the 7mge swap over the winter. But I got handed a good condition 89 cressida engine with wiring, ecu, and everything in trade for some labor. Its all about the deals you can find... But I would not go with anything other than a w58 or r154 for the transmission or you"ll most likely do it all over again...
