Not reving over 3k rpm
Well iv had my car 8 months now and done 1050 miles it was slow and sluggish at the start it took about 200 miles to come around to from this I put it down to lying around for years as it only done 50 miles in the Previous 3 years before my ownership
On sat last I had it away from home about 80 miles it was raining the whole way the car never missed a beat but the next morrning when I started it to go home it will not rev over 3k rpm in any gear it will rev to 4.5k rpm in neutral I thought the distributer leads of the cap might of got wet so I took them out one by one and split the cap but all was dry
It's a 85 p type manual any suggestions or other things to Chek out would be great thanx iv been trying the search all morning but haven't been able to find anything I am thinking it could be something that got wet as I have never had the car out in the wet before

Water in the gas? Does it bog if you continue to push the gas pedal down above those rpms, or is it holding that rpm at full throttle? Any black smoke as you try to push above those rpms?

No sign of black smoke it revs till 3k rpm then it's like hitting the limiter on a diesel if I kept on the gas it felt like it was about to stall don't no about water in the fuel tank as iv had full tanks and no singn of leaking out or smell of fuel

Check the calibration of the tps, there are instructions in the tsrm on how to do it.

it's just a problem with the afm, loose coupler, it wont go past 3000 because it's leaning out, i had the same problem when i first went turbo, would hit 3000 then backfire like crazy.,
but also could be timing belt is set wrong, if u skipped a tooth it'll run slow, set the crank to tdc 0 mark, take the cam gear cover off see if the marks line up, ,
is it easy to start the car??

Well took a look again at car this time inside the distributor cap was soaking was defiantly dry the first time I looked at the side of the road and all power is back no problems think I'll change the distributor cap anyway to prevent further issue and the leads as they r showing signs of their age

Small cracks inside the dizzy is always my first look.
Water will fill those cracks and act like wires.
Then the car will fire on all the cylinders affected.
All at once. The more you press the gas the worst it runs.
Cheap caps are a cause.

I had this same issue with my car after trying to clean the engine bay off a little bit and my issue was water went down into my spark plug chambers. Not sure if you have found the issue or not but may be a possibility
