    Cam advance/ timing advance

    I believe I read a while ago about advancing the stock 5m cams and the timing to gain a little torque and or retarding.. I cannot remember and cant seem to find the write up. Obviously just to help the motor breath a little with supporting mods.. Can anyone confirm or point me in the right direction?

    Retarding the exhaust cam does have some advantages...

    But the most gains are by improving intake ie cone intake, intake piping, larger TB and adding a free flow exhaust...adjusting the AFM 3 clicks counter clockwise.

    Looks like I'll be retarding the exhaust cam in the am. Trying to get my autos times down a bit I'm lacking in speed I feel. No gains in advancing the intake cam 2 teeth while retarding the exhaust 2?

    And thanks! I got lucky the original owner of the car gave me the plate and told the DMV he was my uncle so I could transfer it to my name he had it since 84.

    I did quite a bit of testing with the OEM cams and I documented gains of 4 HP and 9 TQ, while advancing the Intake 1* and retarding the Exhaust 1*. I also seem to remember RWhite and I getting pretty good results at +2/-2, as well.

    P.S. One of the best gains to be had with the 5MGE comes by leaning the fuel mixture a couple of points.

    yeah if im not mistake a tooth is like 12 degrees btw. I also have some good info in my signature about cam timing if you want some good reading!
