7mgte gas mileage. Help me solve it
My car gets absolutely horrible gas mileage. I took a trip yesterday that was 220 miles. I had cruise set and it sat at 70mph the whole way. I didn't even get into boost once on the trip, as this was sort of a fuel mileage test. My AFR's are right in between 14.6-15.0 at this speed. I originally thought it was just the tune, but it's not obviously. 17.9 mpg was all i got.
Hopefully you gentleman can help me figure this out.
I checked the codes, and these are the results:
21: o2 sensor
34: turbocharger pressure
43: starter signal
52: knock sensor
I'm going to start with replacing the o2 sensor. Does it matter what brand I get? The price ranges from $17-108. Big range.
The rest I'm not sure about. I've researched a bit and it seems the knock sensor wiring fails a lot, and that may be my code 52 problem. Code 34 and 43 I'm completely stumped about.

The 02 and knock sensor code is enough to cause bad milage.

I agree with Matt....fix those 2 codes and report back. On a recent trip in mine I averaged 27.5mpg, with hitting boost a few times. Only difference was I had the cruise set at 64.

Well what gears do u have? Also if there's any exhaust leaks pre wideband, including pre turbo, that will throw your readings to the lean side, and your tuning would compensate for that

Quit driving like a hooligan!
That said, you've got to get the codes fixed, especially the knock, but otherwise get a wideband and monitor VF outa the ECU.

Replaced both knock sensors and did the knock sensor rewire.
Replaced the o2 sensor.
Not throwing anymore codes. But still getting at most 19mpg. I had the car professionally tuned. 339hp, 323tq. The gas mileage isn't in the tune.
No more fuel cut either.
3.73 gears.
Any other ideas?Austin Easley
