    6m question?

correct me if im wrong, but from what im understanding in post on this forum, is that the 6mge is made up of using the 7m block and 5m head?
If so, what are the advantages of doing this? I know the 7m is notorious for blown head gaskets, but does that solve it?

Dont really give 2 shits if you like me or not.

Been on here long enough, Im getting tired of seeing FNGs constantly coming in and expecting answers ,of commonly asked and well documented, easily searched questions, spoon fed to them because they are too fucking lazy to either research it a little themselves, or actually get dirty, turn a wrench and build something them selves...

and I know Im not the only one who feels this way.

True That! it is a very handy tool offered buy this site!

Though your second part of the question is kinda good i think the problem with the 7m blowing head-gaskets is due to the factory under torquing the heads. Not sure of the best torque for the head bolts but that's what the search is good for!

Yup, basically a 7M bottom end with 5MGE pistons, and either a true 6MGE crank pulley or a 7M pulley and some creative accessory routing.

The 7M head gasket problems were caused by asbestos not being allowed to be used in the head gaskets. Toyota had to experiment with gasket composition and head torque. The lower torque rating may have worked with the old head gaskets, but it wasn't enough for the new ones. This is also why Toyota had a recall on the truck 3VZE V6 engines for blowing head gaskets.

It's become really diffiicult to find the info in a search here anymore because too many threads like this one pop up before you can find the good ones that have the info you're looking for. Oh the good ol days. I get the impression that Finny had done some research first based on his comment, "from what im understanding in post on this forum", so I refrained from flaming but I also get really irritated like Scott did above because now I know that the next time someone wants some info on a 6m and they search, they're going to have to read this thread, too. I also realize that some of the noobs have used the search and get frustrated by all the junk posts by other noobs that don't bother to search first, I wish there was a filter...

I've made this point before and was then soundly flamed by other "oldtimers" for picking on the newbs.

To make a point, when you search, go to "Advanced Search" and set your parameters to "from the beginning" so that ALL the posts relating to the search will be shown. The standard search parameter is to show threads from only 30 days ago.
