    please help no spark

    i just replaced my engine in my 82 supra after i hooked everything up and went to start it no spark until i let the key go then it sparks for a second will not spark as it is being turned over release the key then spark is there something i did wrong in the wiring harness because i unplugged the ecu 3 yellow connections and pulled them through the fire wall i noticed afterwards that there is a black wire with a red stripe that is in the bundle that pluggs into the ecu different connector at the end cannot figure whewe that goes

    it was an automatic changed to a standard

    Well you might have an extra connector or two after the trans swap. I am not familiar with it myself.

    But I do know that you should check the following for a spark problem.

    Ignitor - gives power to dizzy
    Distrubtor - gives power to wires
    Wires - gives power to plugs
    Wires

    Take the cap off the distributor and crank the engine, does the rotor spin? The ignitor is a part that hardly fails, but when it does, the car suddenly stops running 100%, since it is what controls the coil. If you can take the main coil wire to the intake and crank it, and it doesn't spark, I'd say it is the Ignitor. Also, there is a single pin plug near the ecu in the harness that is usually unplugged.

    Be sure your AFM is plugged in, completely plugged in.
    The AFM will give the ignitor and fuel pump signals to work.
    The '82 AFM is an '82 year only, did you change it or was it changed?
