Cigarette lighter power flunctions
I'm trying to determine if the cigarette lighter (and power system) has any issues. I have several 3rd party cigarette lighter adapters that I've plugged in to the outlet, from xm radio to fm transmitters, and gps's.
The problem is that every so often, the plugged in devices lose power (and hence reboot, once power is restored). Basically like a brownout is occurring, a temporary loss of power, which makes the device reboot.
I've tried juggling (or twisting) the various cigarette power adapters to ensure that contacts line up better, but that hasn't helped. Plus using different adapters in case one has a problem making good contact.
I have 2 82 supra's and they exhibit similar symptom's. Both have had the alternators replaced, multiple times in one car. One has an alt from 84 or later, so it has the diode mod in it.
Guess I could splice in another cigarette outlet and have it exit around the ash try, if I'm forced to find a way to get reliable power. But I'm looking to see if this is a common issue with any know quick & easy solutions.
Thanks

I had a garage re do my cig lighter. They tied it into another power source.
Just got an aftermarket lighter from Napa. I would take apart your console and go to town with a ohm meter.1982 Terra Cotta P-Type
