    Gauging Interest: Carbon Fiber Sunroof for MK2 Supra

    Hey folks;

    so now that the hatch group buy is well on the way I asked Advan for details on the viability of making MK2 Sunroof Panels. I gave them detailed pictures so they were able to get me a very accurate quote. In order to give people a "break" between purchases I would only start this after the hatch group buy was all done and orders were shipped out.

    Unlike the hatch group buy we will be able to offer slightly lower pricing for the group buy than we can through outside of group buy sales. But much like the hatch group buy we'd need 30 to get this done.

    List Price on Advan's Site IF these get built will be: $399 + Shipping
    List Price on Raptor Site IF these get built will be about: $350-$375 + Shipping
    Group Buy Price: $299 + Shipping

    For those with rusty sunroofs who don't want to take their chances on finding a ubber mint junkyard find these will be a perfect match. If anyone knows the weight of the metal on an OEM sunroof I'd love to know as to me if it's significant any amount of weight you can save from the highest point in the car = HUGE bonus. These are a complete swap and not just the cover.

    Does this mean you have sourced, or are going to source, new seals?

    I'm in if the appropriate seals can be obtained.

    will
    I tried to get this done through the same supplier that made the rear hatch seals, but the sunroof seal is a lot more complicated (because of the metal insert) therefore will be a lot more expensive. Considering the amount of people that would likely buy this seal it would actually end up cost a LOT more than the CF sunroof panel as I'd need to make 100 of them at the bare minimum. The hatch seal project for me was not successful, I'm still in the red on that one and it's been a couple of years since produced.

    I've said it i the past, the only way projects like this will happen is when people are starting to get desperate and we're not at that stage now, I figured it's at least another 10 years till we get there as then those who still have the car in 10 years REALLY want it and will pay what it takes to keep it on the road. Till then nobody is going to pay the same price for a sunroof seal as another guy is paying for a whole car.

    So yeah...the answer is no. I saw how fast parts were getting discontinued and purchased a new one from Mark before they were gone and hoping a lot of you did something similar.

    Do you have a good panel to use as a test subject? If not I have a really good one I'd be willing to sacrifice for this.
