 Look for:

  • Rust inside rear fenders
  • Rust underneath the front spoiler attachment
  • Rusty door skins
  • Rusty radiator
  • Rust on inside seams of doors (lower front corners)
  • Rust by rear seatbelts (remove rear seat, leaky sunroof or clogged drain lines)
  • Hatch rust (remove hatch trim to see if starting/lift seals at the lower corners)  Very common. Most common examples are the lower seam under the Supra logo.  Also, if you have a spoiler model hatch, the lower mounting points chew through the paint
  • Rust on rear shock towers
  • Cowl Cover and underneath
  • Gas Tank. Rust sometimes starts underneath the plastic rock shield attached on the passenger side of the tank. This is a common gas tank leak area
  • Lower rocker panels near the rear wheels
  • Lower rear quarter panels. Typically hidden with the P-Type fender flares
  • Metal bumper brackets. These are thin metal pieces that are bolted under the flexible bumper. Three pieces in the front, one in the rear
  • Wet seat belts. If you find the two rear inner belts wet, you've got a sunroof drain leak. If you pull the seat, you'll typically find some rust where the belts are bolted in
  • Sunroof. Typically starts in a corner
  • Lower Radiator supports
  • A/C condenser brackets
  • Front brackets holding the flexible bumper to the fenders
