1984 P-type Calf. emissions central locking problem

So, ever since I bought my car (84 P-type manual Calif. emissions) there was a clicking sound under the dash, which I followed to the door control relay (85980-14030), once I removed it, the clicking stopped and the draining of my battery (when car was parked) as well!
So, finally, I would like to have this issue resolved and have few questions.
In your experience, is it all down to this clicking relay that needs replacing to fix the problem, or is the clicking in the relay due to another fault in the central locking system?
How does the central locking of these cars operate when in working order? I never really experienced it, so I have no idea.
Thanks for the input in advance!
    Punky

The central locking system is discussed in this thread.

are you sure it's not the dvv clicking? It's like 6 inches to the right of the lock relay you listed. The dvv is a very common source of dash clucking in these cars.

Yes, but the DVV would not drain down the battery, as not operative with the car shut.
    Could be both issues !

I had the same problem with a Corvette. The door lock relay was stuck closed and it killed the battery.
Replaced relay and all was good.
