Hello there fellow Supra owners and such.

Picked this car up a few weeks ago? A good friend of mine, Quinn was in need to get rid of it, i had always fancied one, so we exchanged money for car and whola. Under Quinn's ownership a few things were fixed and changed, not too much.

After i received it, I checked the fluids, cleaned the interior, replaced the battery, removed the cassette deck, fixed the heater flapper door that was stuck closed, installed my Nardi Wood Wheel and Shift Knob. Removed the rear wiper, gave er a wash, packed it full of tools and fluids and headed to the track today.

Took it to its full track day under my ownership. Had a blast, it was a bloody hoot in stock form. 30 something year old bushings totally shot. a 80% working diff, decent clutch, totally burnt out catalytic convertor, much sulphur smell :/ broke the muffler at the back off and a pipe it was attached to. driver seat broke mid drift...on a few occasions til i got a set of vice grips to hold the flanges in the corner together. ebrake works fantastic, no tire changes today as it was very wet. much fun was had, hope to have footage soon, would be a nice memento.

going to be ordering coilovers in the new year. have watanabes on order, going to remove the ac bits in the front, take out vacuum parts that are not needed. going to price out and try to get my exhaust bits in order tomorrow and start workin on that mess, should be fun...exhaust work is always the worst. having a lot of fun with this car so far, very interesting and slightly complex?

i just love these things, shear hilarity and 80s porn star's.

this is one of my favourite MA61s. such presence. much wow

did some more skids monday night, refreshing.

was good til a tire exploded and broke the bottom of my right rear flare and my fender trim went and got broken...then took apart what "metal" /rust was the lower 1/4 lol. oh well, got most of the pieces. ill look into that soon

done drifting this thing for a while. going to check it over before i get it ready for motor swap (late in year if this year at all) felt a little down on power, or over gripped last event on my last pair of tires, was a unique layout so hoping the lack of power was just in my head. got a nice photo out of it though :)

where the heck do the threads go when there hasnt been an update in 2 months? mine disappeared again. only shows 15 threads in the build up page?

finally got this thing home. got sick thursday evening and am still right sick. managed to build its home for the next forever, a wood dolly on some old tool box castors and did an all day rescue mission. hopefully i got everything, still has the car on stands so im sure it wont go anywhere for a while if i missed anything. decided i had some energy and stripped the motor of all the misc items. also wanted to clean it up as there was rat shit and coolant in the gully so i wore my respirator and vacuumed and air gunned the lot of it. ive got the factory exhaust up to a flat section just past the trans. took off the intake manifold to make the fuel rail and wiring easier to get to...i LOVE how toyota used metal gaskets everywhere, blessed be their fruit.

The plan is to just simplify this factory setup, make a new exhaust, do clutch and flywheel combo, ATI/fluidampyr, new serp belt, build an intake, timing belt was done like 5000kms ago and looks mint. do new plugs and clean up the spark/igniter things and slap a link ecu on it and then shrug my hands in the air as to what to do after ive fitted it to the car. super basic setup and should be more than adequate for my purposes. ITBs are a massive money pit and tuning them for the 'whoosh' noises i dont buy. i like the big intake on a stock setup, makes better whoosh noises imo. and honestly if i want more power id throw a turbo on it and break all the parts that dont exist any more.

Put the full Wats on the Supra again as the temps are usually above 10C. Checked fluids, air pressures and the like, good to go for now. Cleaned the Altezza cluster and measured it and put it there for mock up for when i swap. Would be nice to get this fully functional, but im also retarded. Got the pig tails on the back so it can be connected.

i could not get my vvti GE auto to run rigth for the life of me with the standard ECU, but if u get it running i guess its the best NA option!
other JZ's are like 30 mins and its running but the VVTi i was struggeling for days..
the problem i had was the electric throttle body, tried swapping it for a non electric TB from a non vvti but that did not work at all...
i guess u need the body harness of the car, an possibly the throttle pedal?
if u go standalone just get a non electric TB and a standalone that manages vvti and you migth get a few extra horses if u tune it rigth?
excited to see how this turns out :D

im going link ecu as i understand you need everything to the key to make it work and i dont have time or patience for that. i will be keeping this tb and getting the elect throttle delete piece from DM more than likely to allow it to function like a normal TB. i have a non vvti 1jz TB and it wont remotely work unless i disassemble the entire body and work witchcraft. its a way down the pipeline as i have a bunch of other stuff to do before doing this. going to use this as a skid car again this year. get the kaaz and 2j to go in after, should be near perfect after this next batch of mods

been a while.
having some fueling issues currently. changed the fuel filter, added an adj fpr. saw i was getting erratic fuel pres. so i got a bosch 044 pump and some adapter pieces and put that in. fixed it for all of 3 laps of drifting, then the fuel issue started up again. going to look at the tank and see what is broken/rotted/falling apart. i understand there is some sort of strainer in the tank, being an 82 its an inline pump.

i met Orido-san by the good graces of coincidence while on a visit to see his daughter here in Victoria.

heres a snap of me drifting one of the 3/4 laps from last monday

and did my first real grip event at mission at the end of May in my civic.

quick recap of the last couple years.
current motor shot

ran my grip event, the supra is a terrible grip car (my setup is not ideal what so ever)

bought a link for the vvti 2jzge

put a clutch and flywheel on

made the fuel rail a return style by drilling and tapping

removed the ac long ago, made a lil spacer from spare metal i had kicking about

made the 80% electric throttle, 100% mechanical throttle

put it all together (added a serpentine belt after this) and as you saw i painted the covers

currently doing renos on my house and then ill get to wiring the link to the car and then put the motor in the vehicle.

Nice! Such a perfect motor for a mk2.

I like how you nuked a few of the more difficult parts of the swapping this particular version. There are ecus that can drive the electric throttle but its still simpler this way. Did you use the drift motion plate in the throttle assembly to convert it?

#277 ·
nope. I took it apart and drilled out the slot in the throttle wheel, clocked the arm in the back, made sharpie marks to see stationary and wot, and then moved it. I saw it was "dead" for a large area and then at the end of the stroke it moved the throttle plate. what the dm piece does is make up the difference and leaves the slot where it is, I just emulated it as its quite simple. I held the little arm where it needed to be and then used red loc tite to make it stationary and blipped it on with a impact driver. tested it on the manifold and made sure it opened all the way. if it fails for some reason, I know what happened.
I wanted to keep it as simple as possible. I have a aeromotive fuel pressure regulator that bung will go to to make that correct as well.

Supra. put it in the shed yesterday and got the M ready to be pulled minus the exhaust manifold and mounts. leaving it like this for a little bit while we do the floors in the house as i need the storage for house stuff. should be a good long weekend to take the M out, prep the jz and slot it in..then all the futzing about and detail work.

been busy with life to care about cars at all. we had a little girl and we were doing renos since February of this year so the house has been a mess since then. Also lack of motivation while house and pregnant wife take up most my time. My wife had a hell of a pregnancy so now that its over we can focus on baby. Im on parental leave right now so figured nows a good time to swap the 2jz in. Found i need to get the fork and pivot and maybe the slave cylinder for a jz so i can use my trans...as all those depend on what motor you run lol...ffs toyota. anyways. motor is out and ready to be picked up by its new owner. JZ is ready but i have a little more research/mock up to do to make sure I dont need a plate between the motor and trans like most motors do as the auto 2J didn't have one and the w58/M stuff may not work? iunno. might mod the M stuff so i have that "shim." I modded the rad support like the s13 and d21 cause man it makes it way easier to pull a motor. took me an hour by myself with the cherry picker and 2 flat boards outside so i can swing and move the parts.

now to clean all the parts and put the jz bellhousing on the W and then sell the W to M housing
get those oem parts for the trans and then pop the trans on the motor, clean the engine bay then plop it in

#280 ·
found some time today to do a bunch of small jobs.
found i needed a 2jz fork and pivot for the bellhousing so that came the other day, plopped them in today to make sure they all fit and functioned, success.

took a video and lots of photos for all the sensors under the intake manifold.
plopped the trans on the motor and torqued all the bolts up.

swapped back to a power rack as i depowered the rack in 2014 and ever since doing short knuckles and long lca's it has been unpleasant to drive/drift/park. these are the bcworks rack spacers on top of the angle stuff, had these on there since before angle mods because the oem lock to lock you might as well austin powers the car anywhere.

while i had that all there, figured i would put it in as my shop is quite the mess and i could do with lots of small jobs over this big job.
using a lot of various tools, by myself i put it in with my minimal space, bad back and wood..lots of wood.
after a head scratch moment with the driftmotion mounts i bought used and looking online to find no answers for what side goes where, i swapped them side to side and knowing they used the "wrong" mounting holes, tapped those before so popping them around was no problem.
once the car is running and driving I will do a parts list and things i came in contact with if anyone is interested/future me needs the help.

decent firewall clearance

dropped the oil pan today to inspect a rather large dent in the pan. all good, toyota gives lots of space from pickup to pan and uses very thick gauge metal, so i hammered it out and put it back in and then lined everything up and bolted everything in. dropped the car back down and started to put the parts back in and start mock up of exhaust, oil cooler/relocate, and intake. originally wanted to run all oem plastics to go for oem+ (get another front cover so its not flashy) or pop my big filter on and weld up a pipe. iunno which way i'll go just yet.

as im back to work after parental leave next week, figured i would keep on keeping on.
did a bunch of plumbing this week. fuel lines run, PS lines run, just waiting on a fitting for the rack so i can connect the -8 line.

started to plop the oem hoses back on and figured out the small stuff ... still have to run vacuum lines ... the few that there are. also did a little project i wanted to do since getting the Gita parts, make the gas pedal and dead pedal work. With a mix match of parts after a lot of in and outs to see what worked, got it to work with some mods. The gita pedal with supra mount (different spacing) had a weird arch to it and the arm itself hit the firewall/floor before the pedal can get to full sweep.

What I ended up with was Gita pedal, spring, throttle cable...supra pedal arm, stopper, mount, pedal pin. The throttle cable is a lil longer than I want it to be, but a little more helped to mock up the holder where it needs to go...which is the next task. After that, fab for the rad support and oil cooler mount and then run the -10 lines to where they need to go. once this is all sorted ill run the harness and get that connected to the link then prep and spray the front half of the bay in single stage black.

minor update, been busy with baby.
supra has a removable rad support now, going to try and Tig this this week, working throttle cable and bracket.

lexus has tiny studded snows and i gave a lick of spray paint to the wheels that have never ever been cleaned.

civic got some brake and clutch fluid bled, swapped to regas with 3mm spacers in the front and changed the eye brow lights to black housings for a change of pace. further work on supra this weekend ahead

#285 ·
civic got the rest of the windows tinted. 50% to the fronts, and 20% in the rear. Gave it a vacuum today too.

Supra got tidied up a bit, has captive nuts in the holes now, modified core support to run the oil lines, mounted the rad and oil cooler. Oil cooler needs a stedy stay to keep it from wandering. Nothing too exciting. Run the oil lines, then tighten all the lines to everything, then take it all apart and paint the front core support, reassemble and then run wires.

no LEV content, just more Supra, and brackets.

repurposed an old custom battery tie down from the cressida and chopped it down and made it the oil filter holder. Cut back most of the battery tray to allow mounting and free up some space. ran the oil lines, check and re check everything can fit.

repurposed a crv? overflow bottle and modified the oem bracket for that to work with the supra.

found a perfect size cut off in my aluminum bin for the filter. I wanted to re use the Gita air box but it was massive and did not fit in the engine bay good at all, as well it has the air flow sensor cast into the plastic. I am debating if modifying the air box to act as a cover would work, or look tacky. The other option as the filter looks stupid by itself, would be to make a heat shield air box for it by modifying that cut off and welding the shield to that so it acts as a cool box and makes that area not so baron.
Last task before paint is to weld the holes up on the rad support and then paint the lot of it.
