I finally got my car out on the track tonight to see what it would run. I have lots of room for improvement, it seems.

1st run:
60' ... 2.695
1/4 ... 17.412
MPH ... 80.32

2nd run:
60' ... 2.616
1/4 ... 17.150
MPH ... 81.57

If I had had more time, I think I could have broke 16's without too much work, but shouldn't my car be faster than that? I know my 60' times are aweful, which I blame on too tall of rear end gears (3.73s). I turned the overdrive off and manually shifted at 5800 rpms.

So now, my debate is exhaust and stuff, or turbo. Hmmmm..... any thoughts?

Darn you both for confirming that I need the expensive stuff! OH by the way, before anyone asks, yes, I was power braking. I'm definitely thinking turbo now, I don't think just exhaust and intake mods will do the trick. As for the 5 speed, well we shall see; I'm trying to hold out until my auto bombs (which is only a matter of time, I'm sure).

I should add that when I raced my truck, a 22R powered slug, it had a better 60' time (2.4xx seconds) than my car! Though the quarter was a bit sadder- [email protected] mph...... I guess I'm just kinda pissed. I guess I could always try the neutral bomb.....

By the way I am in the process of finding and installing some 4.10 gears, so we'll see if that helps or not. Doubtful, but it's something I want to do anyways. Gonna be a while before I go turbo; my truck's getting a V8 this fall, gotta save my pennies for that.

I'd swap to a 5spd before going turbo for reliability. I'm assuming your using the MkI auto trans? Also are you using the 5ME electronics. If so I'd try and convert over to the 5MGE electronics. Thats almost certainly got to be worth a few hp. I think you should out perform a stock MkII with the MkIs weight. MkIIs stock are what mid 16 sec cars? "Allmotor" are those times on a 5 or 6M? I could only muster a [email protected] just shy of 90mph w/ 2.5 60ft on my modded 6m. I wish I could get 2.0 60 ft times.

Electronics are almost identical to those of an '82 supra, which I know is not the best, but I'll go multisquirt if I do anything, swapping in a later MK2 electronics is not worth 5 horsepower for all the hassle. First up is lower gears, followed by gutting my 20 year old cat. We will see what that does.

put in some 4.30 gears, put some 1in spacers in the rear springs to lift the rear up and then work on your reaction time. should help alot. also, get a k&n filter and a 2.25in or 2.5in exhaust.

What's funny is that you ran better times than 2 of the MKIII Ts did last weekend at the Nationals.
MkIII Turbos in the mid 17's?? How embarrassing for them.

Then again, I've raced a couple of "nearly stock" MkIII turbos with my white 83 and they were both in the low to mid 16's..... Pretty close races for my 83.

That is so sad that it's funny! I was at PIR last summer and saw one run a whoppin' 19.3, that was almost as slow as my truck!

I topped my 85 auto with 4:10 non LSD gears at 16.5, had homemade intake and 2.5 exhaust on it, now I have the 5 speed and 4:30 gears, can't wait till the spring to see what she'll run hope fully 15.5. I heard the 5 speed should shave about a second off your time
