I had 235's all around way back when on my 82. Did not notice any advantage in handling. The 235's are bigger and look almost like off road tires on the stock 7" rim. On bumpy roads (where I live) I experienced the front wheels bouncing/hopping off the ground in hard bumpy corners.
245/50/14's fit with no clearance problems (BF Goodrich Radial TA).
225's are fine for this car on the stock rim. I recommend the Michelins even though they are more $$$. My $0.02
