ok, so I got this bizarre and annoying problem with my car, it's been like this ever since I got it but I never thought anything of it, but I thoght I'd ask since well... it's kinda loud and annoying.

it accelerates quietly to 2500rpm, but when it hits 2500 rpm it clicks for as long as I leave it there, but as soon as I go past it, it's nice and smooth again... oh and it only seems to do it in 2nd and 3rd gear. :?:

Actually, mine does that too, except in all gears. Its kinda a weird buzz at 2500-2600. I think it has to do with the heat shield, because when I was cleaning out the engine bay last spring, I moved the shield slightly and it went away for a couple days. Of course, I've been to lazy to really look into it. Anyway, my $.02

Yeah, I guess buzz would be a more accurate term... hmm.

Yup, sounds like a loose heat shield. Check the ones on the collector pipe (2 pipes that combine into 1) and the ones on the cat converter. If they've corroded and one or two mounting points are loose/gone, they can vibrate and make buzzing noises at certain RPM's. Happened with my 83 many years ago and drove me crazy! My girlfriend says it must have been a short drive. :lol:

Yeah, sounds like loose heat shielding. My white '86 cat's heat shield was so rusted that I just removed it. The rattling stopped and never came back!

i hat the same problem...
mine screeched like a bitch though....2100 rpms and it sounded like there was a wheel bearing with no grease.

now i dont have a cat, and all is well

Yeah, sounds like just a loose heatshield. Does it all the time when I drive my mom's Civic. I hit a certain rpm and it's the proper resonance frequency for the heatshield.
